The Palmerton Memorial VFW Post 7134 will hold its monthly meeting at the Palmerton VFW, 2020 Forest Inn Rd., Palmerton on Monday, February 14th at 7 p.m. Post Commander Shawn Schmick will lead the meeting. Current VFW members, veterans, and active duty personnel from all service branches are invited to attend. Monthly meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 7 p.m. New members are welcome.

Relay for Life

At 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, a meeting will be held at the Palmerton High School for Relay for Life of Palmerton and Surrounding Communities 2011. The snow date is Feb. 21.

Newspaper drive

Due to bad weather the monthly newspaper drive by St. John's Lutheran Church has been rescheduled for Saturday, Feb. 12, beginning at 8 a.m. The garage across from the church is always open for anyone wishing to take papers there.

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Feb. 5. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also are in need of brown paper grocery size bags.

Nutrition Education Classes

Adele Argot, a nutrition education adviser with the Monroe County Extension office, is interested in holding a basis nutrition education class in Palmerton, as was held last year at Holy Trinity Church. The program is designed to help families and individuals with low incomes stretch their food dollars to achieve a healthy diet.

Families with young children learned tips on food preparation, meal planning, food storage and sanitation, shopping skills, nutrition for family members and managing a healthy weight.

Over 60 Club

The Palmerton Over 60 Club will meet at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at Palmerton Borough Hall. The program will be bingo and cards.

Camera Club

From 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Jan. 15, the Palmerton Camera Club will hold a free camera workshop at the Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. A book discussion group is forming at the Lehighton Area Memorial Library. The club will meet on the third Tuesday of every month and will discuss a different book each month. Come join us for a rewarding and fulfilling experience. The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18. The book to be discussed is "Last Night at the Lobster," by Stewart O'Nan.
