Bring the kids with their Easter baskets for the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Palmerton Borough Park on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m. (Rain date is Sunday, April 17, 1 p.m.)

This is a free event for children between the ages of 1-10 and is sponsored by the Palmerton Exchange Club and run by Bob and Nancy Thompson.

There will be many prizes chanced off for children and adults.

Parents, don't forget to bring your cameras.

Over 60 Club

At noon, Tuesday, April 19, the Over-60 Club will meet at the Palmerton Borough Hall, 443 Delaware Ave. The program will be presented by Dan Kunkle of the Lehigh Gap Nature Center.

Lions Club

At 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 18, the Palmerton Lions Club will hold a dinner meeting at the Fireline Hotel. The speaker will be PID Robert Miller about Eye Research and Sight Conservation.

Effective immediately, Palmerton Borough has announced that due to new construction at the wastewater treatment plant at South Third Street, the site will no longer be open for people to drop off chipping materials.

Instead, they are asked to bundle their chipping materials in 4-foot lengths or put it in their garbage cans for the waste hauler to take.

VFW

At 7 p.m., Monday, April 11, Palmerton Memorial VFW Post 7134 will hold its monthly meeting at the Palmerton VFW, 2020 Forest Inn Rd., Palmerton. Current active VFW members, veterans and active duty personnel from all service branches are invited to attend. New members are especially welcome.

Community meal

From 5-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, a free community meal will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. All are welcome to enjoy a free meal and fellowship.

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, April 2. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. They also need brown grocery size paper bags. The shiny inserts are acceptable.

4-H meeting held

Mahoning Valley 4-H Community Club held an organizational meeting on March 21. The following officers were elected: Riley Schaeffer, president; Elyse Kistler, vice president; Jackie Malloy, secretary; Brianna Keiser, treasurer; Nolan Wentz, reporter; Erin McGinley, historian; and Katie Aaron and Jack Schaeffer, social committee.

New members are welcome to attend the next meeting at 7 p.m. April 4 at St. John's Church, 826 Mahoning Drive West, Lehighton. At this meeting members will sign up for projects.

Weissport Recreation Committee will host the Weissport Egg Hunt at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 16 in the borough park. Children and grandchildren of Weissport residents ages 0 to 12 are welcome. Prizes will be awarded to winners.

February Elementary Artists of the Month were recently announced.

At Franklin Elementary School, students are: fourth grade, Isaiah Everett; third grade, Kaitlyn Solomon; second grade, Molly Mihalko; first grade, Isabella Hoffman; and kindergarten, Edie Cordes.

At East Penn Elementary School, students are: fourth grade, Emily Kleintop; third grade, Colton Bachman; second grade, Alaina Strohl; first grade, Tret Solt; and kindergarten, Logan Gerhart.
