The People's EC Church, 216 Wagner St., East Weissport, will hold its Annual Vacation Bible School for children ages 4-10 on June 15,16, and 18 with a pool party on June 19 for those who attend two of the three days.

This year's theme is Hero Adventure: Where Kids Join Forces with God. Vacation Bible School begins at 6 p.m. Call (610) 377-1696 for details or to preregister.

Lehighton Area Council of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a picnic to be held at the Phifer Ice Dam in Franklin Township at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15.

Meats and refreshments will be provided. If possible, bring a covered dish to share.

A donation will be requested to cover miscellaneous expenses. RSVP the chamber office at (610) 377-2191 by June 14 if you are planning to attend.

This picnic is open to everyone including all Carbon County Chamber members. Spouses, children and friends are invited. Bring a potential CCCC member.

Palmerton Area Library

At 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, the Palmerton Area Library will present a Kid's Rock Concert. This free concert will be the official kick-off for the Summer Reading Program, which is offered at the library during June and July.

The concert will feature Ricky and his band Ovmium76 from Allentown. They sing popular kids' songs to a rock beat, which will involve lots of audience participation. Kids of all ages will enjoy this entertaining evening in the upstairs gallery at the library.

Mystery Trip

The Palmerton Area Historical Society's June 14, meeting will be the annual "Mystery Trip."

The group will depart from the parking lot across from Hager's Furniture Store promptly at 6 p.m. Transportation is available for anyone needing a ride.

Palmerton Area Library

Two day camps are being offered for children in grades K-5 at the Palmerton Area Library in July. The event was made possible through the Horseheads Resourcce Development grant program.

4-H Livestock Club meeting

At the May 26 meeting of the Carbon County 4-H Livestock Club, the Carbon County Fair Books were distributed for the members to fill out the registration of animals and other activities.

4-H is the youth component of Penn State University. Penn State is committed to affirmative action, equal opportunity, and the diversity of its workforce.

The next meeting will be June 9, at the Big Creek Grange.

The Palmerton Area Historical Society invites everyone to join in a "Walk Around the Block with Betsy" at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 30.

The walk will highlight the history and architecture of the buildings around the perimeter of the town park including businesses in the 300 block of Delaware Avenue. To add to the interest and enjoyment, large photographs of the buildings as they once were, will be featured. The tour with Betsy Burnhauser will leave from the Palmerton Area Heritage Center at 410 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton.

The walk was rescheduled due to weather.

A free community meal will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, May 27 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.

Memorial Parade

A Memorial Day Parade will be held in Palmerton on Monday, May 31 beginning at 10 a.m. The parade will form at Second and Delaware Ave., between 9:30 and 10 a.m. The parade will proceed down Delaware to Fifth Street, and continue to Franklin Avenue to the borough park. Memorial services will be held in the park. The parade is organized by the Palmerton American Legion.

Baer Memorial Swimming Pool will officially begin their 2010 season with free admission from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 29.

Lehighton Area Pool Pals will be dedicating a new pavilion and grill at 3 p.m. The pavilion will officially be called Blue Ridge Pressure Casting Pavilion recognizing the very generous donations received by Blue Ridge Pressure Castings towards not only the pavilion but also to the refurbishing of the pool. The grill was donated in memory of Wilbur (Cap) Bauschpies, former mayor of Lehighton by members of his family.
