Card shower

Friends of Maureen Karas, of Mahoning Valley, are being asked to remember her as she recovers from recent hip surgery.

Maureen is a three-time cancer survivor and resides with her son, Chet.

She formerly worked in the shoe departments of Laneco in Lehighton and Jamesway in Tamaqua.

The reservation deadline for the Lehighton Area High School Class of 1981's 30-year reunion has been extended to Aug. 1. Heritage Center

So many antique quilts were loaned to the Historical Society that not all could be displayed at one time. As a result, those shown originally have now been replaced by a different group. The center at 410 Delaware Ave., is open various hours Wednesday through Saturday.

Preschool Story Hour

Preschool Story Hour will resume on Sept. 2.

Knitting Club

A knitting club has been organized for anyone interested in knitting, crocheting and other crafts. Ideas will be discussed about knitting for various charities. The knitting club meets on the first and third Monday of each month at the library from 6–8 p.m. The club is free. New members are welcome.

Model railroad

The Carbon Model Railroad Society will hold a Christmas in July open house at 529 Ore St., Bowmanstown, on Saturday and Sunday, July 9, 10, 16, and 17 from 1-5 p.m. The main HO scale display is in various stages of completion and is an excellent learning tool. The club's portable HO and N scale displays will also be in operation on the second floor. Admission is free. The building is air-conditioned. For more information, call Garry at (610) 826-6626.

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, July 2.

There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need brown grocery size paper bags.
