People's Church plans pavilion dedication

People's Evangelical Congregational Church, 216 Wagner Street, will host an outdoor service to dedicate a new pavilion at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11. The service will include a concert by Lost and Found, as well as a Sept 11 commemoration. Lawn chairs are encouraged. Everyone is welcome. Call 610-377-1696 for additional information. Rain date will be Sept. 25.

Blessing of the animals

St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 222 Church St., Lehighton, will host a Blessing of the Animals at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, in Miller's Store parking lot, Fairyland Farms. All pets must be on a leash or in a carrier.

Garbage change

Due to the Labor Day holiday, Franklin Township board of supervisors announced that a change in garbage collection will be made for Franklin Township residents whose collection is normally on a Monday. Collection will be changed to Tuesday, Sept. 6.

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive Saturday, Sept. 3. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. They also need brown grocery size paper bags.

Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 at the home of Pamela and Bill Gothard, 265 Forest Inn Road, Lehighton. All members are asked to bring an appetizer or dessert.

Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25 at the Gothard Realty office, on Interchange Road in Lehighton.

First day of school

The first day of school in the Palmerton Area School District is Monday, Aug. 29.

Community supper

From 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, a free community meal will be served at St. John's Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. All are welcome.

Palmerton Library

The summer reading program at the Palmerton Area Library finished with the presentation of a musical program called "Bugs, Baboons, and Story Tunes."

Successful Miller-Keystone blood drive

Once again, at a time of year when blood donations are usually scarce, the residents of Palmerton and vicinity came through for Miller-Keystone at their Aug. 15 blood drive at the First United Church of Christ's Fellowship Hall. A total of 78 people registered, exceeding the goal of 75, and 78 units of blood were collected. Multi-unit donations on the Trima machines offset 7 deferrals. This visit was sponsored by Janet Snyder.

Park Concert

Closing out the Palmerton Bandstand Concert Series will be a concert by the Palmerton Band on Sunday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair.

In case of rain, the event will be held in the borough hall, 443 Delaware Ave., Palmerton.

Knitting Club

From 6-8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 15, the Knitting Club will meet at the Palmerton Area Library.

The club is for all area residents interested in knitting, crocheting, and other crafts.

The club is free, and new members are welcome.
