Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., will hold a 9 a.m. First Sunday in Lent worship service. It includes recognition of Girl Scout troops. Music will be provided by the Trinity Praise Band.

The Rev. Guy Grube will presides. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Sunday School classes meet for students ages 3 through grade 12 at 10:30 a.m.

World Day of Prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 7, at Zion United Church of Christ, Second and Iron streets, Lehighton. The theme is "Streams in the Desert."

Sherry Sernak, principal of St. Peter and Paul Catholic School, Lehighton, has named the February Students of the Month.

Video on Red Cross detachment

The Monday, March 10 meeting of the Palmerton Area Historical Society will feature a historic video on The New Jersey Zinc Company's Red Cross Sanitary Detachment.

The video has been reformatted from an early 16-millimeter film. A brief business meeting begins at 7 p.m., followed by the video. The public is welcome. There is no charge.

Newspaper drive

Members of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, March 1. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery-size brown paper bags.

Sunday School classes meet for students ages 3 through grade 12 at 10:30 a.m.

The district-wide Women of the ELCA will collect old cell phones, including smart phones, iPads, and iPods as a means of supporting a women's shelter in Berks County. These items may be dropped off in the church office or given to synodical board member Brenda Benner before April 4.

to meet

Palmerton Lions will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18 at Fireline Hotel.

Community members are reminded to donate used eyeglasses at Houser Newman Eye Associates, Walters Optometric, First Northern Bank & Trust, Citizens Bank, all located on Delaware Avenue in Palmerton and/or the Palmerton Area High School located on Fire Line Road or by giving them to any Lions member.

Bethany Church

Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, North St., Lehighton, will hold Sunday School (all ages) at 9:30 a.m., and Sunday morning worship at 10:45 a.m. Kid's Club for children kindergarten through fourth grade is at 6 p.m. on Monday.

A Gaming Grotto will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight, Friday, Feb. 7. The event is free and open to the public at Living Hope Lighthouse Church, 705 Third Street, Palmerton.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., will hold first Saturday worship at 5 p.m., Feb. 1. The Rev. Michael Frost, pastor of Zions Stone Church, New Ringgold, will preside.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion is at 9 a.m. Interim pastor, the Rev. Don Hayn, presides. A "souper bowl" offering will be received to benefit Trinity Food Pantry, which serves numerous residents in need each month.

Sunday School classes meet for students ages 3 through grade 12 at 10:30 a.m.

First Tuesday quiet communion is observed at 10 a.m. Feb. 4.
