Added displays

More model trains have been added to the model train display at the Palmerton Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, recently. Some of these were custom-made to match actual NJZ cars, and others have historical significance.

The display will continue through February, and the Heritage Center is open various hours, Wednesday through Saturday each week. Phone (610) 824-6954 for a recording of the hours each day. Admission is free.

Camera Club

The Palmerton Camera Club will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.

The presentation will be "Morning Becomes Electric" by Ed Vatza. His presentation evolves out of his love for the early morning, pre-sunrise hours.

The public is invited to attend.

Kids Party Club

Kids Party Club will meet from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 21, at St. Peter Evangelical Church, 177 Main Road, East Weissport, (Franklin Township). The event is for children ages 5 to 12. There will be Bible stories, games, songs, crafts and a snack. The next date is Feb. 18.

Second Blessings open

Second Blessings, a clothing share ministry of Bethany EC Church on North Street, Lehighton, will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16 and again on Thursday, Jan. 19 from 6-9 p.m.

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Jan. 7. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting paper bags only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery-size, brown paper bags.

Franklin Township has changed the date of garbage collection due to the New Year holiday. Collection for Monday, Jan. 2, has been changed to Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Franklin Township supervisors will reorganize at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3. The regular township meeting will follow at 4 p.m. This meeting takes the place of the Jan. 17 meeting. There will be no meeting on Jan. 17.

LALLC to meet

Lehighton Area Lioness Lions will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at the Carbon Career and Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe. Members are asked to make a note of the change in the meeting date.

Dolly Woody from the Susan G. Komen Foundation will be on hand to accept a check from proceeds raised during the recent quilt raffle.

Borough representatives will also be visiting. Lions are encouraged to invite a guest or family member to attend the dinner. Reservations can be made by contacting Linda Benner at (610) 377-3685.
