Franklin Elementary School lists news

Senator David Argall will be visiting Franklin Elementary School on Tuesday, Nov. 22 to be a reader.

Students are taking part in the "Thanks for giving," food collection for Trinity Food Pantry. The campaign will continue until Nov. 22.

Franklin Elementary PTO is sponsoring the entire Franklin Elementary School to go to Mahoning Cinema's to see the movie "Happy Feet 2" on at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. This is the Christmas gift from the PTO to the students.

Thanksgiving Eve Service

A Thanksgiving Eve service will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, at 7 p.m. Nov. 23. This will be an informal service in the Fellowship Hall. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be served. All are invited to bring cookies and your favorite coffee mug.

Lehighton Borough will hold Thanksgiving week trash pickup on Saturday, Nov. 26.

Lehighton residents are asked to put trash out Friday night as pick up will be slightly earlier in the day than usual.

Toys for Tots registration

Schuylkill-Carbon Marine Corps League, will hold its 2011 Toys for Tots registration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 12; Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19; Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3; and Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10, at Salem Bible Fellowship Church, 1105 Frederick's Grove Road, Lehighton. This is the only location for registration. No phone calls will be accepted. Parents or guardians who want to register children for toys must register in person on one of the dates listed above.

Palmerton Lions Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at the Fireline Hotel. District Governor Scott Dudley will address the membership. Members are encouraged to bring a guest and/or family member to the meeting.

Members are also busy planning for the club's upcoming Santa visit to Palmerton Hospital.

Kids Party Club plans activities

Peter's E.C. Church, 117 Main Road, Lehighton, (Franklin Township) is hosting a Kid's Party Club from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 19.

Kid's Party Club offers Bible stories in a party atmosphere for children ages 5-12. There will be songs, Bible lessons, games and snacks.

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Nov. 5.

There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines.

The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.
