Palmerton Area School District announces that schools will have early dismissal on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 22, 23 and 24. Secondary students in grades seven to 12 will dismiss at 11 a.m.; elementary students in grades kindergarten to sixth will dismiss at 11:45 a.m. All morning and afternoon kindergarten students will attend the morning sessions and will follow the elementary dismissal schedule at 11:45 a.m. Kindergarten students should be in class at 8:30 a.m. these three days.

Thanksgiving dinners

A free community Thanksgiving dinner will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 25, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.

A community dinner will also be held at Faith Alive United Methodist Church from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 20, 678 Pine St., Bowmanstown. Transportation and homebound delivery is available for county residents by prior arrangement. Victoria Shupp, an active member of Salem United Methodist Church, 4145 Forest Inn Road, Palmerton, was anxious to organize a women's daytime Bible study.

Vicki consulted Betty Anthony and Janet Lerow and they, too, were interested in a Bible study. The three ladies went to Hackman's Bible Book Store and selected "Women of the Bible," a study of 31 women in the Bible, by Frances Vander Velde.

Women of the ELCA

The Women of the ELCA of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton, will be celebrating their 125th year as a women's missionary society. Thy started as the Fred J. McCready Missionary Society in 1885.

The names have changed over the years to Mission Society, Lutheran Church Women, and the present, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Although the name has changed the purpose has remained the same: to grow in faith, to engage in ministry and action, and to promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world.

Over 60 Club

The Palmerton Over 60 Club will meet at noon, Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the Palmerton Borough Hall. The program will be presented by Kathy Long about storytelling.

Library Board

The board of directors of the Palmerton Area Library will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the library. Meetings are open to the public.

Knitting Club

The Knitting Club will meet from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at the Palmerton Area Library. The club is free and invites all area residents interested in knitting, crocheting, and other crafts.

The Palmerton Area Democratic Club will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Fireline Hotel, Bowmanstown. The focus of the meeting will be "Post Election Analysis" lead by political science professor, Dr. Roy Christman.

The PADC's Annual Holiday Dinner will precede the Dec. 14 meeting.

The area covered by the Club includes Palmerton, Bowmanstown, Towamensing Township and Lower Towamensing Township. Meetings are monthly, the second Tuesday of the month, September to May, 7 p.m. at the Fireline Hotel, Bowmanstown. Newcomers are welcome.

PAHS plans birthday event

Palmerton Area Historical Society will celebrate its 20th birthday at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, in the Knight's Gallery of the Palmerton Area Library.

The PowerPoint program is entitled, "A Trip Down Memory Lane: the History of the Society."

Refreshments will be served.

The event is open to the public.
