All Night Party planning meeting

Lehighton Area High School Class of 2014 All Night Party Planning committee will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 9 in the high school cafeteria. Meetings of individual committees may meet earlier. All parents and guardians of students in the class are encouraged to attend

Newspaper drive

Members of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Jan. 4. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold First Saturday worship at 5 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Frost, pastor of Zions Stone Church, New Ringgold, presiding.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion, will begin at 9 a.m., which includes installation of congregational council members for 2014. Interim pastor, the Rev. Don Hayn, will preside. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Sunday School classes for students ages 3 through grade 12 will be held at 10:30 a.m.

First Tuesday quiet communion will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 7.

Palmerton Lions Club Meeting

Palmerton Lions will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6 at the Palmerton Library. The 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20 meeting will be held at the Fireline Hotel.

Community members are reminded to donate used eyeglasses at Houser Newman Eye Associates, Walters Optometric, First Northern Bank & Trust, Citizens Bank, all located on Delaware Avenue in Palmerton and/or the Palmerton Area High School located on Fire Line Road, or by giving them to any Lions member.

Eyeglasses are recycled for those in other countries who are unable to afford corrective lenses.

Miller-Keystone Blood Center

College students are encouraged to give Miller-Keystone Blood Center an hour of their time, and a pint of blood, and they'll give you the satisfaction of knowing you have saved up to three lives; a free mini-physical; refreshments; and a chance to win an iPad.

If you haven't donated since Oct. 30, weigh at least 110 pounds, and are in general good health, you are eligible.

Miller-Keystone will be at the First United Church of Christ, next to Palmerton Borough Hall, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27.

2013 Palmerton church tours

The Palmerton Area Historical Society is sponsoring a tour of the Palmerton area churches on Saturday, Dec. 28.

A collectible guide, with color photos of each of the churches by Connie Reinhart, is available for a contribution of goods or money to support the CACPAC Pantry's distribution of food and personal care items to those in need in the community.

St. Peter's Evangelical Congregational Church will present a Christmas program, "The Story of Christmas" at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 15. There will also be a candlelight Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. Dec. 24. All are welcome.

Heritage Center

The exhibit in the Feature Room at the Palmerton Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is artifacts of the New Jersey Zinc Co.

Although the company itself did not have a policy on preserving its history, some of its employees did. A number of these items are on display.

The center is open Wednesday through Saturday every week. Call 610-824-6954 for times. Admission is free.

The Zinc Company items will be on display through December.

Collecting for dog shelter

Lynette Moyer of 306 White St., Weissport, is hosting a collection for the Carbon County Animal Shelter. Especially needed are cleaning supplies, water towels and garbage bags. Also needed is dog food and dog treats.

Items can be dropped off at her home or call 570-675-1143 for pickup.

AMVETS

Lehighton AMVETS, Elwood Miller Post 106, will hold its annual Christmas party meeting on Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Lehighton American Legion. Doors will open at noon and the meeting will begin at 2 p.m.
