Community meal

A free community meal will be served from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 24, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. All are welcome to enjoy a free meal and fellowship.

Camera Club

At 7:30 p.m., Jan. 24, the Palmerton Camera Club will meet at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton. They will have live animals and a green screen demonstration. There will also be a photo challenge: "cold," "shadows," or combine for "cold shadows;" bring just one or two or all three.

Meetings are open to the public.

Lehighton AMVETS

Lehighton AMVETS, Elwood Miller Post 106, as part of the United Veterans Organization Honor Guard, participated in the military funerals of Shawn Zellner, U.S.A.F., Vietnam; Lt. Ernest Hoffner, P.O.W., World War II and Korea; Willard Blocker, U.S. Army; Larry Smith, U.S. Army, Vietnam; and Robert Brown, U.S.A.F., World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

They participated in Trees for Troops ceremony on Nov. 30 at Yenser's Tree Farm and Pearl Harbor Day ceremony at the monument along Stanley Hoffman Boulevard and Lehighton Legion Home on Dec. 7.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold "Baptism of our Lord" Sunday services, at 9 a.m., with Holy Communion. The format is contemporary worship featuring the Trinity Praise Band. A recognition of 2012 baptisms will be observed. Newly-appointed interim pastor, the Rev. Donald Hayn will preside. Coffee fellowship follows in Luther Hall.

The youth of Trinity will have a "to go" soup sale to help fund their Hurricane Sandy Relief mission trip in the summer following the worship service.

The Over 60 Club of Palmerton will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at noon in the Palmerton Borough Hall, 401 Delaware Ave.

There will be bingo and cards.

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Jan. 5. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.

LAHS Class of 1968 plans reunion

Lehighton Area High School Class of 1968 will hold a reunion meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, at the Lehighton American Legion to start planning the 45-year class reunion. Anyone interested in helping plan the reunion is asked to attend the meeting.

Miller-Keystone Blood Drive

In spite of their busy holiday schedules, 78 potential donors registered for the Miller-Keystone Palmerton community blood drive on Wednesday, Dec. 19, and 70 units were collected. This drive was sponsored by Larry and Sharon Engle, and Janet Snyder.

The following donors reached gallon levels: Carl Behler, 18 gallons; Nancy Kresge, 15 gallons; Thomas Lager, 10 gallons; Dale Smith, six gallons; Shirley Greene, five gallons; Barry George, three gallons; George Elliston, one gallon. There were five first-time donors.

Trinity happenings

Seasonal decorating of Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers are welcome to participate in the hanging of the greens and adorning two live trees with lights and "Chrismon" ornaments. A Chrismon is shortened from "Christ" and "mono" gram. The Chrismons were first developed in 1957 by Frances Kipps Spencer at Ascension Lutheran Church, Danville, Va. They are ornaments to proclaim the Lord Jesus Christ through the use of symbols.
