Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Aug. 3. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold Ninth Sunday after Pentecost worship with Holy Communion at 9 a.m. The Rev. Richard Hinkle presides. Coffeehouse fellowship follows. The church is air conditioned.

Palmerton Food Pantry

The Palmerton Food Pantry will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 19, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fireline Road, Palmerton. For information, call (610)-826-4335.

Park concerts

At 7 p.m., Sunday, July 21, the Palmerton Band will present a concert in the Palmerton Borough Park Bandstand. The following week, July 28, Crazy Heart will perform. In case of rain, concerts will be held in the Borough Hall, 443 Delaware Ave. Bring your own lawn chair and enjoy the music.

Family reunion

The Mertz family reunion will take place Saturday, July 13 starting at noon at Phifers Ice Dam in Franklin Township. Please bring a donation for either the cake walk or the Chinese auction.

Barbecue and drinks will be provided. Please bring a covered dish to share with others.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold First Saturday of the month worship with Holy Communion at 5 p.m. July 6, with the Rev. Michael Frost, pastor of Zion's Stone Church, New Ringgold, presiding.

Seventh Sunday after Pentecost worship with Holy Communion is at 9 a.m. July 7, with interim pastor, Rev. Donald Hayn presiding. The church is air-conditioned.

Palmerton Lions to meet

Palmerton Lions Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, July 15, at The Summit, second floor dining room. Members are asked to make a note of the change in time and location. Members are also asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the local food pantry.

The July 1 meeting is cancelled due to the July 4th holiday.

Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the home of Pat Whitehead, Indian Hill Road, Lehighton. Members are asked to make note of the meeting date change. Lions are encouraged to invite a guest or family member to attend the covered dish picnic.

Model Railroad

The Carbon Model Railroad Society will hold a Christmas in July open house at 529 Ore St., Bowmanstown. The event will be held Saturdays and Sundays, July 6, 7, 13, and 14, from 1-5 p.m. The building is also open Thursday, July 1, from 7-9 p.m. The main HO scale display is in various stages of completion, and is an excellent learning tool. The club's portable HO and N scale displays will also be in operation on the second floor. The building is air-conditioned. Admission is free.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, Third and Iron streets, Lehighton, will hold Sixth Sunday after the Pentecost worship 9 a.m. service, which will include a Service of Healing. This service may be beneficial to those with physical, emotional, spiritual burdens hoping the load may be lightened. Coffee fellowship follows. Interim pastor, the Rev. Donald Hayn will preside. The church is air-conditioned.

First Tuesday Quiet Communion is at 10 a.m. July 2.

Successful blood drive

Whether it was because they felt it was their civic duty, they wanted to enjoy the air-conditioned Fellowship Hall at the First United Church of Christ, plus the extra refreshments Palmerton donors are offered; or they wanted to enter one of several drawings Miller Keystone Blood Center is running this summer to encourage donations, 79 potential donors registered at the June 24 community blood drive, and 70 units of blood were collected.
