Heritage Center

The exhibit in the Feature Room at the Palmerton Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is artifacts of the New Jersey Zinc Co.

Although the company itself did not have a policy on preserving its history, some of its employees did. A number of these items are on display.

The center is open Wednesday through Saturday every week. Call 610-824-6954 for times. Admission is free.

The Zinc Company items will be on display through December.

Collecting for dog shelter

Lynette Moyer of 306 White St., Weissport, is hosting a collection for the Carbon County Animal Shelter. Especially needed are cleaning supplies, water towels and garbage bags. Also needed is dog food and dog treats.

Items can be dropped off at her home or call 570-675-1143 for pickup.


Lehighton AMVETS, Elwood Miller Post 106, will hold its annual Christmas party meeting on Sunday, Dec. 8 at the Lehighton American Legion. Doors will open at noon and the meeting will begin at 2 p.m.

Trinity Happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold First Saturday worship with Holy Communion at 5 p.m. The Rev. Michael Frost, pastor of Zions Stone Church, New Ringgold, will preside.

Second Sunday of Advent worship will begin at 9 a.m., which includes baptism of baby girls. The Rev. Guy Grube will preside. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Concourse Club

The Palmerton Concourse Club will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.

Bringing in the Yuletide Season will feature guests Resa Hall, vocalist, and Frank Hall, accompanist.

No newspaper drive

There will be no newspaper drive by St. John's Lutheran Church in the month of December. The drive will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Persons who wish to dispose of papers throughout the month may take them to the garage across from the church on Fireline Road, which is always open.

Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5 at the Mahoning Valley Ambulance, Lehighton. Members are asked to bring a toy for the annual "Toys for Tots" program.

During the meeting, the club will provide monetary donations to two area nonprofit organizations. Reservations should be called to Lion Alicia Silliman by Monday, Dec. 5.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold a 9 a.m. worship service Sunday, Nov. 24. There will be a baby girl baptism at the service. This will be Christ the King Sunday, the last Sunday of Pentecost, the Church's "New Year's Eve." The Christian calendar begins its new year next week as Advent. The Rev. Matthew Martin, director of "End Hunger NE" organization, Marshfield, Mass., will be the guest preacher. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Sunday School classes for ages 3 through 12th grade meet at 10:15 a.m.

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton will hold 26th Sunday after Pentecost worship with Holy Communion at 9 a.m. The Rev. Don Hayn will preside. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

There will be no Sunday School classes meeting Nov. 17. The annual congregational meeting will begin at 10:15 a.m. with important items including the election of council members.

Third St., Lehighton, will host the 25th Sunday after Pentecost worship at 9 a.m. Music will be provided by the Trinity Praise Band, with guest vocalist Becky McFadden. Several selections made famous by Amy Grant are planned. The Rev. Guy Grube will preside. Coffee fellowship follows.

Sunday School classes meet at 10:15 a.m. for ages 3 through grade 12.

The Women of the ELCA are to meet in the parish hall at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14. "All who hunger gladly gather" Bible study will be led by Louise Roth.

Lehighton Bible Church events

Lehighton Bible Church, Jamestown and Center streets, Lehighton, will hold Game Night at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. Fun and fellowship for adults and youth.

Special guest speakers for the 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10 services are evangelists Lee and Darlene Homoki, founders of Bible Doctrines to Live By.

A Thanksgiving Eve service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 27, Fellowship and refreshments will follow.

Ladies Night Out at the Old Time Christmas in Jim Thorpe will be held on Friday, Dec. 6.
