Contest winners announced

The winners of the Lehighton AMVETS Post 106 Americanism Contests have been announced.

The contest was open to all third and seventh graders in the Lehighton Area School District. The topic for this year's contest was: "Why It is Important to Vote."

Third grade Poster Contest winners are: first place, Hailey Long, $50; second place, Ronald Snyder, $30; third place, Callie Hayman, $20. All three winners were from Mahoning Elementary School

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, May 4. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery size brown paper bags.

Woman's Club plans Spring Tea

Woman's Club of Lehighton will hold its annual "Spring Tea" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 1 at Luther Hall at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton. Guests for the evening will include the Woman's Club of Nesquehoning. Women in the community are invited to attend to meet others, enjoy entertainment, refreshments, and visit neighbors.

The program will include a performance by members of Lehighton's TNT Studio of Dance. A Student Art Award presentation will be made to a deserving recipient from Lehighton Area High School.

Successful blood drive

Miller-Keystone Blood Center's Palmerton community blood drive on April 22 drew 75 potential donors and yielded 71 units of blood. "Walk-ins" helped with the total. There were three first-time donors. This visit was sponsored by Kyle, Erica and Jonah Ahner.

The following donors reached gallon levels: Garry Mack, nine gallons; Jane Cervenak, seven gallons; Carol Andrews (at PHS) and Susan Parisi, four gallons each; William Hayes, Charles Hinkle, Mildred Kistler, and Brian Wanamaker, three gallons each, and Roger Smith, one gallon.

Lehighton AMVETS

Lehighton AMVETS, Elwood Miller Post 106, will meet at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Lehighton V.F.W.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will celebrate the fourth Sunday of Easter worship with Holy Communion and infant girl baptism. The Rev. Guy Grube will preside. Coffee house fellowship follows.

Sunday School Power Hour begins at 10:15 a.m. for ages 3 through adult. The final classes meet May 12 before the summer break.

Miller Blood Drive

Miller-Keystone Blood Center will conduct its bimonthly Palmerton community blood drive on Monday, April 22, from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the First United Church of Christ, next to Palmerton Borough Hall. This drive is sponsored by Kyle, Erica and Jonah Ahner.

Free family movie to be shown

Christ Evangelical Free Church invites the public to a free screening of the family movie "One Hit from Home Faith changes the game," on Saturday, April 20. Show time is 7 p.m. but the doors will open at 6:30.

Christ Evangelical Free Church is located at 2420 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive West, Lehighton, about three-quarters of a mile west of the Normal Square intersection on Route 443.
