Drug and Alcohol Task Force

The Lehighton Drug and Alcohol Task Force, Crime Watch Division, is hosting a neighborhood watch program from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, at the Lehighton Area High School auditorium. The presentation will feature informative speakers and will enlist volunteers.

Teen Challenge Choir to sing

Teen Challenge Choir will present a program of gospel music and testimony at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, March 11, at Bethany E.C. Church, North Street, Lehighton.

The choir is composed of young men from all over the United States. Every member comes from a background of drugs, alcohol, and/or crime. Each member with his own story from murder to heroin addiction testifies to the miracle working power of God's love.

The choir represents over 200 students residing at Teen Challenge Training Center in Rehrersburg.

Blood drive results

The Miller-Keystone Blood Center's community blood drive on Monday, Feb. 13 at the First United Church of Christ was considerably more successful than the previous drive in December. Although the goal of having 75 potential donors registered was not quite reached, with 72 people signing in, 68 units were collected. This visit was sponsored by the Aquashicola Fire Company.

Manuel Muniz reached the 4-gallon level. There were three first-time donors.

Free Community Dinner available

All Saints Episcopal Church, Second and Coal streets, Lehighton will offer a free community dinner from 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16. Everyone is invited.

Kids Party Club planned

Peter's E.C. Church, 177 Main Road, Lehighton, (Franklin Township) is hosting a Kid's Party Club from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 18. Kid's Club Party offers Bible stories in a party atmosphere for children ages 5-12. There will be songs, Bible lessons, games and snacks. LALLC plans board meeting

Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at Gothard Realty Office, Interchange Road in Lehighton.

Board members who are unable to attend are asked to notify President Lisa Whitehead before the meeting.

A free community meal will be held from 5-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 14, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. All are welcome.

Food pantry

The Palmerton Food Pantry, located at 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton, at St. John's Lutheran Church, will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 17. For information, call (610) 826-4335.

Cancer support group meets

Blue Mountain Health System Women's Cancer Support Group will meet from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Gnaden Huetten Campus, 211 N. 12th Street, Lehighton, community room.

The group is aimed for women with cancer-related issues to meet in a casual atmosphere to gain personal support. Contact Mary Ann Hazel, (610) 824-6490, for more information.

Newspaper drive

The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Feb. 4. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.

Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need grocery-size brown paper bags.

LALLC to meet

Lehighton Area Lioness Lions will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at the Carbon Career and Technical Institute, Jim Thorpe.

Roxanne Down, director of Blue Mountain Health System Adult Day Care Center, will be the guest speaker.

Added displays

More model trains have been added to the model train display at the Palmerton Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, recently. Some of these were custom-made to match actual NJZ cars, and others have historical significance.

The display will continue through February, and the Heritage Center is open various hours, Wednesday through Saturday each week. Phone (610) 824-6954 for a recording of the hours each day. Admission is free.
