Historical society

The Palmerton Area Historical Society will hold its regular general monthly meeting on Monday, March 11, in the Knight's Gallery of the Palmerton Area Library.

Don Eckhart of Walnutport, a Civil War expert, will be the speaker. His presentation is "Various and Sundry Topics on the Civil War."

A brief business meeting will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the program.

That night is also the deadline for the reservations for the May trip to the Asa Packer Mansion in Jim Thorpe.

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold fourth Sunday in Lent worship Service of the Word, at 9 a.m. The Rev. Donald Hayn, interim pastor, presides. Coffee house fellowship follows.

Sunday School Power Hour begins at 10:15 a.m. for ages 3 through adult.

Lenten services

Lenten services for Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran and Jerusalem UCC, Trachsville, St. Matthew's UCC, Kunkletown, Salem UCC, Gilbert, and Salem-St. Paul Lutheran, Kresgeville, will be held March 6 at Salem UCC, Gilbert. Services on March 13 will be held at Salem-St. Paul Lutheran, Kresgeville, with guest preacher, Pastor Brain Holben.

Soup and sandwiches will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m., with worship at 7:30 p.m.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold First Saturday worship with Holy Communion at 5 p.m., March 2. The Rev. Michael Frost will preside.

The third Sunday in Lent worship with Holy Communion will be observed at 9 a.m. The Rev. Donald Hayn, interim pastor, presides. Coffee fellowship follows. Sunday School Power Hour begins at 10:15 a.m. for ages 3 through adult.

First Tuesday quiet Communion is observed 10 a.m. March 5.

Franklin Township garbage bills

Franklin Township residents were mailed out a bill for garbage at the end of January.

Any residents who have not received a bill are asked to contact the township office.

New policy

Franklin Township residents should note that the Franklin Township administrative office will be closing public hours on Friday afternoons at noon beginning on March 2.

Personnel will be in the office, but the office will be closed to the public to give them the opportunity to work without interruption.

Beltzville Lions will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, March 4. This is a "Bring-A-Friend," meeting and all members are encouraged to bring a friend.

Lehighton Crime Watch

Lehighton Crime Watch will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26 at the Lehighton Area High School. Commissioner Wayne Nothstein will present the topic "Carbon County Prosecution Procedures."

Lenten services

The combined worship service of Lent between Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran and Jerusalem UCC, Trachsville, St. Matthew's UCC, Kunkletown, Salem UCC, Gilbert, and Salem-St. Paul Lutheran, Kresgeville, will be held Feb. 20 at Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran.

On Wednesday, Feb. 27, services will be held at St. Matthew's UCC, Kunkletown. The guest preacher will be Pastor Bill Ellsworth.

Soup and sandwiches are from 6:30-7:30 p.m., and worship begins at 7:30 p.m.
