Slatington Trailhead dedication

A dedication of the Slatington Trailhead will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Trailhead is located adjacent to the Main Street bridge that connects Slatington and Walnutport.

Slatington Lions Club

The Slatington Lions Club will meet at the Moose at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21. There will be committee updates and open discussion.

Lions celebrating birthdays include Daniel Evans (May 16); Theodore Martinez (May 17); and Robin Distler (May 29).

Slatington 150th Anniversary Committee plans new history book

In 2014, the Borough of Slatington will celebrate the 150th anniversary of its incorporation. Plans are under way for a weeklong celebration in August of next year. To help commemorate the anniversary, the history committee of Slatington 150 is planning on printing a history book.

Clean Up Day

The Slatington Parks & Recreation Commission will sponsor the second annual Keep Slatington Beautiful Clean Up Day on Saturday, April 20, beginning at 9 a.m.

The cleanup, held in conjunction with Earth Day, will help beautify public recreation areas in Slatington. Areas to be cleaned will be borough owned and operated recreation facilities in the Slatington and include the West End Playground, Victory Park, The Fish Pond, Slatington Trailhead, and the Slate Heritage Trail from the Slatington Trailhead continuing westward to the borough line.

Slatington Trailhead

This Saturday, April 6, at 9 a.m., is a work weekend at the Slatington trail head building project.

The group hopes to paint the wood that is exposed to the elements. Help is wanted, as 12 or more people would make it go fast for all.

In the event of rain, the activity will be rescheduled for the following weekend.

Lions Club

The Slatington Lions Club will hold a board meeting at the Skeet Club at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10.

Northern LehighHistorical Society

The Northern Lehigh Historical Society had a productive 2012. Landscaping and maintenance continued along the Slate Heritage Trail and around the Trout Run Covered Bridge.

Its website was re-created by a group of students at Lehigh Carbon Community College. The new address is www.nlhistoricalsociety.org. The effort was initiated and led by NLHS member Vanessa Meleski.

The NLHS continued its participation in the Venture Group's Slatington Trailhead project. The Gathering, 2012, was successful. Planning for this year has started.

Slatington Lions Club

The Slatington Lions Club will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, at the Moose. The speaker will be Dave Altrichter, who will discuss the Lehigh County Veterans Mentor Program.Rotary Clubof Slatington

As a community project, at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, the Rotary Club of Slatington will be donating two classroom sets of William Shakespeare's famous plays, "The Tempest" and "Macbeth," to the Northern Lehigh High School to promote literacy among the students.

Annual reorganization meeting

On March 26, the Northern Lehigh Swimming Pool Association will hold its annual board of directors reorganization meeting in the second floor faculty room of Slatington Elementary at 7:30 p.m.

During the general meeting, they will discuss plans for the refurbishment of the main and baby pools, fundraising ideas, projected costs, and summer student employment.

Anyone interested in being a member, or helping the association, is encouraged to attend. In addition, any suggestions to improve the swimming pool facility would be appreciated.

Playground reorganizational meeting rescheduled

The Slatington Parks & Recreation Commission will host a reorganizational meeting for the West End Playground Association on Tuesday, Feb. 26, beginning at 7 p.m. The meeting was originally scheduled for Jan. 28, but due to inclement weather, attendance was low.

The meeting will be held at Assumption BVM Church, 633 W. Washington St.

The Borough of Slatington acquired the West End Playground property last year, and the recreation commission is spearheading the effort to form an association at the playground.
