Rotary Club presents $4,500 to library

On Feb. 20, Ron Williams of the Rotary Club of Slatington, along with Gary Fedorcha, Rotary District 7430 Gov Elect, presented a check for $4,500 to Doris Smith of the Slatington Library.

The grant, which was a combination grant from the Rotary Club of Slatington and Rotary District 7430, will be used for needed upgrades to computer software, screens, projectors, document cameras, flip cameras and riser equipment.

The Slatington Lions Club will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Moose Club. The speaker will be chiropractor Mark Batman.

The club thanked Jim Layland and Tom Nicholson and his sons for cleaning up after the Christmas Tree sales.

Historical society receives grant

The Northern Lehigh Historical Society has acknowledged the receipt of a $500 grant from the Henry L. Mickley/Mable S. Fravel Charitable Trust.

The funds will be used to help defray the cost of painting the pavilion at the western approach to the Trout Run Covered Bridge along the Slate Heritage Trail.

The Slatington Lions Club will hold meeting at the Moose at 7 p.m. Jan. 21.

The speaker will be Jim Evans on Prostrate Help.

Pool receives grant

The Northern Lehigh Swimming Pool has acknowledged receipt of a $4,077 grant from the Henry L. Mickley/Mable S. Fravel Charitable Trust. The money will go toward the completion of the renovation of the main and baby pools this coming spring.

The 2014 season will open with a complete refurbishment of both pools.

The Swimming Pool Association will hold its annual board of directors reorganization meeting at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 25, in the faculty room at the Slatington Elementary School.

Tax-Aide site volunteers needed

State Rep. Julie Harhart (R-Lehigh/Northampton) has challenged AARP to open a Tax-Aide site at the Vigilant Fire Company in Slatington and they are looking for volunteer assistance.

Tax-Aide, a partnership between the AARP Foundation and the Internal Revenue Service, provides free federal, state and local tax counseling and preparation to middle and low-income taxpayers of all ages, with special attention to individuals age 60 and over.

Slatington Tree Lighting

The annual Slatington Tree Lighting event will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Slatington Memorial Park, 509 Main St., Slatington, across from the Slatington Baptist Church.

All are welcome to join the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce for an evening of socializing and celebrating the holiday season as a community. There will be hot chocolate and cookies while listening to caroling led by the Northern Lehigh Freedom Chorus.

Prior to the lighting of the tree, Santa will arrive by fire truck for photos with the kids.
