Kick off Hike and Tour

Northern Lehigh Girl Scout Service Unit 733 will kick off the 2014-15 Girl Scout Year by holding a Kick off Hike and Tour of the Walnutport Canal Locktender's House Saturday.

All registered Girl Scouts in the Service Unit are invited to attend. The group will meet at the Locktender's House on Lehigh Street in Walnutport at 9 a.m. and tour the Locktender's House until 10 a.m.

Sesquicentennial Parade

"Seventy-six trombones led the big parade ..." well, maybe there won't be that many, but Slatington's Sesquicentennial Parade is definitely coming, and there will be trombones.

The parade will be held Aug. 16, beginning at noon. It will form at Main and South streets, head down Main Street, continue downtown, and then turn up Center Street, where it will end at Northern Lehigh Middle School.

The Northern Lehigh Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. July 16 at the Slatington Trailhead pavilion, located at Main and Railroad Streets.

A short business meeting will be followed by a presentation by David Altrichter about the two Slatington fireman statues. Please bring a lawn chair.

Northern Lehigh Historical Society

The Northern Lehigh Historical Society would like to acknowledge the fine effort by Eagle Scout candidate Dylan Schlichting of Walnutport in completing the painting of the pavilion next to the Trout Run Covered Bridge in Slatington.

Dylan, a member of Troop 43, took on the job for his Eagle Scout project. He organized the project, recruited volunteers, estimated the materials needed and presented the plan to local civic organizations in order to secure funds.

Clean Up Day

The Slatington Parks & Recreation Commission will sponsor the third Annual Keep Slatington Beautiful Clean Up Day beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. The rain date is Saturday, April 26.

The cleanup, held in conjunction with Earth Day, will help beautify public recreation areas in Slatington.

10th Annual Boyer Bowl

The 10th Annual Boyer Bowl will be held on Saturday, April 19, at the Slatington Bowling Center in Slatington.

Session one is from 5-8 p.m. Session two is from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Bowling for a Cause benefits the Asher F. Boyer Endowment Fund for Future Education.
