Touchdown Booster Club

The Jim Thorpe Olympian Touchdown Booster Club will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 6 p.m. in the commons area of the high school. At this meeting, officers for 2013 will be elected. This includes, president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. As per the club by-laws of 2011, to become an officer, you must have attended 75 percent of the 2012 meetings, and in order to vote, you must have attended at least two consecutive meetings in 2012.

Children's party

The Diligent Fire Company, Centre Ave., will hold its annual Christmas party for the children of the community, on Saturday, Dec. 22, at 1 p.m.

The affair is open to children up to the age of 10.

St. Mark's

The Christmas services for historic St. Mark's/St. John's Episcopal Church, Race St., are as follows: Dec. 24, 7 and 11 p.m. there will be a service in the main church.

On Christmas day, there will be an 8 a.m. service in the chapel.

Bloodmobile

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at Memorial Hall on Wednesday, Dec. 19, from 1-6 p.m. Donors should be 17 years of age and older.

Fire company party

The Diligent Fire Company will hold its annual children's Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 22, starting at 1 p.m. It is open to youngsters up to the age of 10.

Author to visit Jim Thorpe

Mary McNally Ratto, of the Poconos and author of the suspense novel "The Cain Sanction," will be at the Dimmick Library Friends House during its book sale on Saturday, Dec. 8 from noon to 4 p.m. Ratto will be talking about and signing copies of "The Cain Sanction," a political thriller involving a retired FBI agent, a presidential candidate's headquarters, murder and treachery, and a treasonous conspiracy that threatens to take down the American political system.

Bible study

The women's Bible study at St. John's Lutheran Church, Heights, will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 6:30 p.m. in the Good Shepherd room of the church. The class meets the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Joan DeAcetis is the leader and they are studying the book of Acts.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church will hold its free community dinner on Sunday, Nov. 18, from 4-6 p.m. at the church on Race Street. This will be the turkey feast.

Toys for Tots registration

Registration for the annual Toys for Tots program will be held on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Salem Bible Fellowship Church, 1105 Frederick's Grove Road, Lehighton. This is the only location for registration. No phone calls will be accepted.

SJRA celebrates

Veterans Day

Saint Joseph Regional Academy celebrated Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 9.

The students presented a program thanking all veterans for their service. BG (Ret) Michael Bimler, a former SJRA student and former resident of Jim Thorpe, was the guest speaker.

The students performed various songs, recited poems and skits for the veterans in attendance. Bimler also presented the school with an American flag that was flown over Camp Blue Diamond, Ar Ramadi, in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq.

Jim Thorpe Cub Pack 138 and Boy Scout Troop 555 will be participating in Scouting for Food.

Bags have already been distributed to area residents. The troops will be collecting the filled bags on Saturday morning, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. All non-perishable food items are welcome.

If you did not receive a bag and would like to donate, food items can also be dropped off Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at Christ Lutheran Church, Route 903, or St. Joseph Church, Jim Thorpe.

The collected food will go to the local food pantries.

Author John LaRizzio will be talking about and signing copies of his new book "Hey, Milkman!" on Saturday, Nov. 10 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Dimmick Friends House, 58 Broadway, just two doors up from the Dimmick Library in downtown Jim Thorpe.
