The Penn Forest Planning Commission meeting that was scheduled for Nov. 26 at the Penn Forest Volunteer Fire Company #1 has been canceled due to lack of agenda.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church will hold its free community dinner on Sunday, Nov. 18, from 4-6 p.m. at the church on Race Street. This will be the turkey feast.

Toys for Tots registration

Registration for the annual Toys for Tots program will be held on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 16-17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Salem Bible Fellowship Church, 1105 Frederick's Grove Road, Lehighton. This is the only location for registration. No phone calls will be accepted.

SJRA celebrates

Veterans Day

Saint Joseph Regional Academy celebrated Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 9.

The students presented a program thanking all veterans for their service. BG (Ret) Michael Bimler, a former SJRA student and former resident of Jim Thorpe, was the guest speaker.

The students performed various songs, recited poems and skits for the veterans in attendance. Bimler also presented the school with an American flag that was flown over Camp Blue Diamond, Ar Ramadi, in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq.

Jim Thorpe Cub Pack 138 and Boy Scout Troop 555 will be participating in Scouting for Food.

Bags have already been distributed to area residents. The troops will be collecting the filled bags on Saturday morning, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. All non-perishable food items are welcome.

If you did not receive a bag and would like to donate, food items can also be dropped off Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to noon at Christ Lutheran Church, Route 903, or St. Joseph Church, Jim Thorpe.

The collected food will go to the local food pantries.

Author John LaRizzio will be talking about and signing copies of his new book "Hey, Milkman!" on Saturday, Nov. 10 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Dimmick Friends House, 58 Broadway, just two doors up from the Dimmick Library in downtown Jim Thorpe.

The Sunday School children of St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, held their annual Halloween party on Sunday evening. Prizes were awarded to the following children: prettiest, Erin McArdle; ugliest/spookiest, Kaia Shiner; funniest, Colton Steigerwalt; Judges' choices, Kaitlyn Strohl and Tyler Adamitis.

Following the costume parade, the children participated in various games and refreshments.

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at Memorial Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 1-6 p.m. Donors should be 17 years of age and older.

M. Digioia Bogin, author of "Sons of Light" will be at the Dimmick Friends Book Sale on Saturday, Oct. 6 from noon to 4 p.m. She will do a meet a greet and will sign copies of her new book.

Lions Club Flag

Project continues

The Jim Thorpe Lions Club has received many donations to support the ongoing replacement of American flags around the borough. Donations are still being accepted to help fund the project and ensure the purchase of new flags and the proper replacement of old flags.
