Nativity display

Due to the inclement weather this past weekend, St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave., will be holding its nativity display this Sunday, Dec. 20, from noon to 5 p.m. at the church. They are over 150 different nativity scenes on display.Childrens' parties

The Fairview Hose Company #2 social club will host its annual Christmas party for children on Friday, Dec. 18, from 6-9 p.m. It will be held at the social club building, 9th and School streets.

ObamaA special Christmas tree lighting will take place at Sam Miller Field in Jim Thorpe on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Eighty gifts for the first 80 children in attendance will be distributed. There will also be hot chocolate and cookies served.

Nativity display

St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave., will hold a nativity display at the church on Saturday, Dec. 12 and Sunday, Dec. 13. from noon to 5 p.m. each day. Members of the church are invited to display their favorite nativities at the church.

In conjunction with the Old Fashioned Christmas, St. Mark's/St. John's Episcopal Church, Race Street, will hold its open house on Friday, Dec. 4, from 4-8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Toys for Totsregistration

Friday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 5, will be the final two days to register for Toys for Tots. Registration will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Thrift Shop beneath the Dollar General Store, Lehighton.

A campaign container is located at 22 E. 6th St., in town, if you wish to donate items for this year's campaign.

Jim Thorpe Council of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the Inn of Jim Thorpe, downstairs meeting room.The agenda will include a review of the Fall Foliage Festival, cookbook fundraiser, progress fo the Olde Time Christmas event, 2010 officers and bus tour opportunities.

Office closed

The Jim Thorpe Borough office will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. It will reopen on Monday, Nov. 30, at 8:30 p.m. If you have payments that you want to make, please place them in the drop-off box at the office.

Christmas party

Members of the Phoenix Hose Company will hold their Christmas party on Dec. 4, at the company headquarters. Reservations must be made by Nov. 28, by calling (570) 325-425l or (570) 952-1164. A brief meeting will be held at 6:30 that evening, with the party to follow.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 Race St., Jim Thorpe, will host a free community supper from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22.

The meal will be turkey and all the trimmings.

A Thanksgiving Ecumenical service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue. The service is sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Ministerium. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Hinkle of St. John's Lutheran Church, North Street.

Light refreshments will be served following the service.
