Meet the Author

On Saturday, Nov. 13, from 1-3 p.m., Berks County author Clemson Page will be at a Meet the Author event at the Dimmick Library Friends House in Jim Thorpe.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 21 Race St., Jim Thorpe, will host a free community supper from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21. The menu will be turkey with all the trimmings.

Members of Cub Scout Pack 138 distributed Scouting for Food bags last weekend.

This weekend, Saturday, Nov. 13, the scouts will be collecting the bags for residents that wish to donate canned goods to the local food pantries. The scouts will begin around 9 a.m. and are asking that the bags with the food items be placed on your porches.

Christmas Party set

Members of the Phoenix Fire Company will be holding their annual Christmas party at the fire company on Dec. 10. A meeting will be held at 6 p.m. with the gathering to follow.

The committee for the live nativity is in need of clear gallon jugs to be used as luminaries for the event. The goal this year is to make 200 luminaries. If you have questions you may contact Mrs. Ronald Dunbar at (570) 325-4303.

Community supper

St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Race Street, will hold its free community supper on Sunday, Oct. 24, from 4-6 p.m. The menu planned this month is pork and sauerkraut.

Scouting for Food

Members of Cub Pack 138 will be collecting canned foods for the local food pantry on Saturday, Nov. 13. The Scouts will begin their collection on that day at 9 a.m. If you wish to donate to this worthy cause, please have your items bagged and on your porches for pick up.

Fire Company meeting

Members of the Phoenix Fire Company will meet this evening, Tuesday, at 7 p.m. at the company headquarters. Nomination of officers for next year will take place during the meeting.

Tire collection

Tire collection in the borough will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon. at Memorial Park. All tires must be off the rims. If you have any questions, call the borough office, at (570) 325-2781.

The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be stationed at Memorial Park on Oct. 20, from 1-6 p.m. Donors should be 17 years of age and older.

The Jim Thorpe Halloween Parade will be held on Sunday, Oct. 31. Everyone in the community is invited to march in the parade. Groups and organizations are welcome to build a float or march in uniforms. Call Kathy Schwartz at (570) 325-2911 or e-mail to sign-up or volunteer to help.
