Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met Nov. 25 at the Ryan Township Fire Company in Barnesville with 41 members attending.

The business session was conducted by President Eleanor Schmerfeld. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered the invocation, "Make Me Worthy."

Birthday greetings were offered to Muriel Wehr. Anniversary wishes were extended to Jim and Kathleen Valentine, who celebrated 65 years together. Shirley Becker shared several jokes, and Ruthann Feane offered a reading of "Thank You God For Everything."

Trinity happenings

First Saturday worship with Holy Communion at Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third Street, Lehighton, is at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Michael Frost, pastor at Zion's Stone Church, New Ringgold, presides.

Sunday worship with Holy Communion begins at 9 a.m. Guest pastor, the Rev. C. Hope Knobler, presides. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Weekly Sunday school classes for young people ages 3 through grade 12 begin at 10:30 a.m. Parents are reminded to drop off children at the church sanctuary.

Community meal

A free community meal will be served from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton.

All are welcome to enjoy a free meal and fellowship.

Food pantry

The Palmerton Food Pantry will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 19.

The food pantry is at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton.

Santa arrives

Santa Claus will be arriving in Palmerton at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Summit Hill

Sewer authority vacancy

The Summit Hill Borough is seeking an interested person to fill a vacant seat on the Coaldale, Lansford, Summit Hill Sewer Authority Board.

The interested party needs to be a resident of Summit Hill and would take the position in January 2015.

Submit a letter of interest to borough secretary Kira Steber no later than Dec. 30.

Legion events

The West End Home Association, West End Memorial Post 927, will meet tonight at 7:30.

The West End American Legion meets at 7:30 p.m. the first Thursday of the month at the Post Home.

PVEN board

The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network's board of directors will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville.

PV Band Parents

Pleasant Valley Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the high school.

Advent breakfast

The Tamaqua High School Jazz Chorale will be the musical guest at the Fourth Annual Tamaqua Community Advent Breakfast on Dec. 13 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greenwood and Mauch Chunk streets.

It is sponsored by the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership and the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and includes breakfast by Zion's Culinary Crew, music, an Advent message by the Rev. Virginia Goodwin, and candle lighting ceremony. Luminaria kits will be available.

Slatington Lions Club

The Slatington Lions Club will hold its annual Christmas Party Saturday at the Moose.

Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner is at 6 p.m. and entertainment is at 7:30 p.m.

Tree lighting

The Nesquehoning Lions Club has received the town's first community Christmas tree and has planted it in the St. Patrick Cemetery.

The official first lighting of the new community tree will be held at 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

The public is encouraged to come out for the event.

VFW Auxiliary

Christmas party

The annual Christmas Party of the Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at Lengyel's Restaurant.

A brief business meeting will be held, followed by dinner.

Third St., Lehighton, begins at 9 a.m. The Service of Healing with prayers and the "laying on of hands" is said for those with emotional, physical and spiritual burdens to help lighten one's loads. Designated pastor, the Rev. Nancy L. Moore, will preside. Coffeehouse fellowship follows.

Exercising seniors

There is a low-impact exercise class for those over 55 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at the Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company.
