After the Nesquehoning Borough Council came out of executive session for personnel reasons this week additional items were discussed. Missing from this month's council meeting were council men Michael Sniscak and Frank DiMiceli.

Mayor Tony Walck mentioned that the Memorial Day Parade in town will form at 8 a.m. at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center and begin march at 8:30 a.m.

The Crime Watch meeting will be held this month on June 15 at 7 p.m at the Borough Hall.

The lineup for the Nesquehoning Memorial Day Parade will form at the Nesquehoning Recreation Center at 8 a.m. on Monday.

Marchers will step out into the line of march at 8:30 a.m. They will stop for salutes at the VFW Monument and St. Patrick's Cemetery on West Catawissa Street. They will proceed to the Nesquehoning VFW where a ceremony will be held.

Featured as the guest speaker will be Craig Strohl. All are invited to the patriotic ceremony.

The Palmerton Area Historical Society invites everyone to join in a "Walk Around the Block with Betsy" at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 30.

The walk will highlight the history and architecture of the buildings around the perimeter of the town park including businesses in the 300 block of Delaware Avenue. To add to the interest and enjoyment, large photographs of the buildings as they once were, will be featured. The tour with Betsy Burnhauser will leave from the Palmerton Area Heritage Center at 410 Delaware Avenue, Palmerton.

The walk was rescheduled due to weather.

First Steps

First Steps, a support group for mothers, will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 1, at the Primitive Methodist Church, 55 Hunter St., Tamaqua. The meeting will be held in the church social room from 6-8 p.m.

Participants will share a hot meal and explore 10 of Linda's favorite picture books.

The sessions are free and open to the public. Child care for all ages will be provided free of charge. New members and volunteers are welcome.

Polk Township Memorial Service

Polk Township will be holding a memorial service on Sunday, May 30 at 2 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial located at Trach Drive and Route 209 in Kresgeville.

Parking is available at Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church, or at the Kresgeville Post Office.

Everyone is welcome and bring a lawn chair.

The Lehighton Area Council of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce will host a covered dish picnic at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 15. Meats and refreshments will be provided. Everyone should bring a covered dish or treats to share with everyone. A small donation is requested to cover the cost of miscellaneous expenses. A free community meal will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, May 27 at St. John's Episcopal Church, 365 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.

Memorial Parade

A Memorial Day Parade will be held in Palmerton on Monday, May 31 beginning at 10 a.m. The parade will form at Second and Delaware Ave., between 9:30 and 10 a.m. The parade will proceed down Delaware to Fifth Street, and continue to Franklin Avenue to the borough park. Memorial services will be held in the park. The parade is organized by the Palmerton American Legion.

ESRC volleyball

The Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission will sponsor a Summer Volleyball League for adults 18 and older. Registrations are now being accepted.

Contests will be held at the sand volleyball court at the Black Diamond Park, Coaldale.

The league is co-ed and teams may have between six and 10 players. Games are scheduled to begin June 15 and will then be held Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer months.

Summit Hill

Congregation to meet

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, will hold a special congregational meeting on Sunday, June 6, immediately following the worship service.

Items to be discussed are the expense ratio with Zion Lutheran Church, Nesquehoning, the Simply Giving Program, and consideration of selling the parsonage.

The church council encourages all members to attend this important meeting that is vital to the future of St. Paul's.

Northern Lehigh School District

School will be in session in the Northern Lehigh School District on Friday, May 28, as a snow make up day.

The last elementary student day has been changed to Friday, June 18.

Running of the Dawgs

The 10th Anniversary of the Northern Lehigh Education Foundation Running of the Dawgs will be held on Saturday, June 5, at the Northern Lehigh Athletic Stadium, 1 Bulldog Lane, Slatington.
