Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met June 8 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 42 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation.

Reports were presented by secretary Florina Martin. Birthday greetings were offered to Helene Clouser.

Carmen and Alberta Corch were congratulated on their 60 wedding anniversary.

Florina Martin provided inspirational readings.

Summit Hill

Historical society

The Summit Hill Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 16, at 7 p.m. in the society's museum on East Ludlow Street. Lee Mantz, president, will be in charge of the session.

Members will discuss the Memorial Day parade, computer software issues for the museum, the rededication/tours of the GAR Cemetery, the upcoming picnic and fundraisers.

Mantz will also discuss Dr. Michael Thompson, a doctor in the Tamaqua area, Summit Hill, and then for the railroad in the 1860s.

New members are welcome to attend.

Nesquehoning

Food pantry

The Nesquehoning Food Pantry will held be Thursday, June 17 at Meed's Methodist Church from 1-3:30 p.m.

Free dinner

The free community dinner will be held June 30 from 5-7p.m. at Meed's Methodist Church.

Senior boxes

Senior boxes will be distributed on Friday, June 25 from 10 to noon.

Seniors can also sign up at this time at Meed's Methodist Church.

Historical society

There will be no regular meeting of the Eldred Township Historical Society this Tuesday, June 15. Instead, members are asked to meet on Tuesday, June 22 at 10 a.m. in the picnic grove to set up for the Chinese auction to be held at the Kunkletown Carnival. Please bring any donated items for it at that time.

The People's EC Church, 216 Wagner St., East Weissport, will hold its Annual Vacation Bible School for children ages 4-10 on June 15,16, and 18 with a pool party on June 19 for those who attend two of the three days.

This year's theme is Hero Adventure: Where Kids Join Forces with God. Vacation Bible School begins at 6 p.m. Call (610) 377-1696 for details or to preregister.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The monthly meeting of the Nesquehoning VFW Ladies Auxiliary was held on June 8, at the Post Home with President Cathy Sommers presiding.

Lehighton Area Council of the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a picnic to be held at the Phifer Ice Dam in Franklin Township at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15.

Meats and refreshments will be provided. If possible, bring a covered dish to share.

A donation will be requested to cover miscellaneous expenses. RSVP the chamber office at (610) 377-2191 by June 14 if you are planning to attend.

This picnic is open to everyone including all Carbon County Chamber members. Spouses, children and friends are invited. Bring a potential CCCC member.

Board of Health

The June meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the municipal building with Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, Shirley Becker, Health Officer Judith Hadesty R.N. and Health Enforcement Officer James Barron in attendance.

Barron provided his monthly report, noting he made spot check inspections at Burger King, Domino's Pizza, Padora's Six Pack House, Trinity church kitchen, SS. Peter and Paul's kitchen, and Hess Express. He also received and adjusted for complaints: three trash and one home unfit for human habitation.

Band concert

The Cressona Band will perform in concert on June 16, at 7 p.m., at the Tamaqua ABC High Rise. This event is free and open to the public.

The Cressona Band performs show tunes, marches, overtures and music of yesteryear. This performance is being sponsored by Shafer's Pharmacy and Dr. Richard Chwastiak.

The high rise is located at 222 E. Broad St.
