Hunter Trapper

Education Class

Pennsylvania Game Commission's Hunter Trapper Education Class will be sponsored by Indian Mt Rod & Gun Club, located on Route 534, Kresgeville, on Saturday, April 5 from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

You must register online at pgc.state.pa.us/.

Class size is limited and the minimum age requirement is 11 years old. The certification earned is required by Pennsylvania law for first time hunters.

The March meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health was held at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, James Gormley, Shirley Becker and health enforcement officer Mitch Geist in attendance.

Holy Trinity

Happenings

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, will hold Wednesday Evening Lenten soup and sandwich, and worship on March 12, 19, 26, and April 2, 9. Supper will be from 6-7 p.m., followed by worship from 7-7:30 p.m.

Worship with Holy Communion will be held Sunday, March 16, with services at 8 and 10:45 a.m.

The LWR quilters have been hard at work, but are in need of sheets. If you have sheets to donate, please bring them to the church and label them "LWR." Flat, double bed size works the best, but singles will also do.

Community Lenten Service

A Community Lenten Service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12 at Hope of Christ Presbyterian Church, 44 W. White St., Summit Hill. A soup supper will be served before the service at 6:15.

Everyone is welcome.

In case of inclement weather, please call 570-645-2360 to confirm service will be held.

Bird feeders made

Forty-two kids and many adults made bird feeders from pinecones at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Saturday, Feb. 22. Pictures are posted on the group website.

Relay for Life

Pleasant Valley High School, Brodheadsville, will again be the site for the West End Relay for Life being held May 31-June 1. Activities begin at 10 a.m.

Zion Noiz, the team from Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, will be one of the many participating team.

Slatington Lions Club

The Slatington Lions Club will hold a meeting at the Moose at 7 p.m. March 18.

The speaker will be Phil Stanbourgh, who will be speaking on the Power of Failure.

Lions David Papay (March 12), Sherwood Mack (March 20), Henry Kline (March 25), Peter Papay (March 26), Theodore Harlan (March 27) and William Turner (March 28) are celebrating birthdays.

Sorority news

Members of the Preceptor Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority have been busy this winter.

The group met Jan. 9 at the home of Mary Machay, where guest speaker Theresa Houser presented tips on cake baking and decorating. Everyone had the opportunity to try a technique using icing to make a cake look like a basket.

Wanda Keefer was the hostess for the Jan. 23 meeting. Keefer's daughter, Brianne presented a program on scarf knitting, with members attempting to create their own scarves.

LALLC to meet

Lehighton Area Lioness Lions Club will hold a board meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in the community room at Blue Mountain Health System Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital campus. Pat Whitehead and Betty Wagner are on the refreshment committee.

The club will host bingo for residents of the Lehighton Hi-Rise at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Board members who are unable to attend the board meeting are asked to notify President Kimberly Babcock before the meeting.

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church

Salem St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Trach Drive, Kresgeville, is hosting the Soup supper for Lent on March 12. Volunteers are needed to help make soup that day and to bring desserts that night. A sign-up sheet is located outside the church office. Guest pastor for this service is Bill Ellsworth

A fair meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18.

Blood drive

A Red Cross blood drive will be held at Cornerstone Community Church from 1-6 p.m. Tuesday, March 25. Walk-ins are welcome and appointments are always encouraged.

Coaldale

First Congregational Church

Morning worship will be held at First Congregational Church, Coaldale, at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 9, followed by Sunday School at 10 a.m. The church board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, March 10.

Lenten Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, followed by choir rehearsal.

Golden Agers

The Panther Valley Golden Agers will meet at 1 p.m. March 10 at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church Social Hall, weather permitting.

Members are asked to wear green to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
