Lansford

AMVETS to meet

A reorganizational meeting of the Lansford AMVETS Post 83 will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at the American Legion Post 123 located at 3 W. Ridge St.

Summit Hill

Shade Tree Commission

The Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission will be conducting its annual Arbor Day ceremony and tree plantings at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 26.

The ceremony and memorial plantings will be held in Ludlow Park at the gazebo.

Auditions

The Tamaqua Area Community Theatre will be hosting auditions for a production of "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown." The theater group is looking for actors ages 10 and up.

Auditions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 25 and from 2 to 5 p.m. on April 26.

Actors will need to sing two lines of their favorite song and provide a two minute monologue.

Easter at St. Matthew's UCC

St. Matthew's will hold a community egg hunt and games at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 19, in the picnic grove on Grove Road, Kunkletown.

If you would like to donate candy and eggs (hard-boiled and dyed and plastic) please have these items at the church by noon Saturday.

Easter Sunrise service will be at 6 a.m., Sunday in the picnic grove.

There will be a breakfast immediately following in the church fellowship hall.

At 9 a.m. there will be a traditional Easter worship service in the church. Communion will be served at both services.

Raider band concert

The Tamaqua Area High School Raider Concert Band will present its annual Spring concert on May 1 in the Tamaqua School District Auditorium.

The concert will feature the Raider Wind Ensemble, Concert Band and Jazz Band, under the direction of Mark Beltz.

The combined ensembles feature more than 130 student musicians in grades 7 through 12, performing music from a variety of styles and periods.

Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:45 p.m., with the concert scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Trinity happenings

Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., will hold Holy Week worship opportunities.

At 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday services will include Holy Communion.

Fifth-grade candidates receive their first holy communion after weeks of instruction.

Good Friday Tenebrae worship will be at 7 p.m.

On Saturday Vigil of Easter with holy communion will be at 7 p.m.

Clean Up Day

The Slatington Parks & Recreation Commission will sponsor the third Annual Keep Slatington Beautiful Clean Up Day beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. The rain date is Saturday, April 26.

The cleanup, held in conjunction with Earth Day, will help beautify public recreation areas in Slatington.

Bethany events

Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, North Street, Lehighton, will hold prayer meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Maundy Thursday service with communion will be at 7 p.m.

On Good Friday, the church will be open from noon to 3 p.m.

The church is open for anyone from the community for meditation and reflection.

Organ music will reflect the solemn time of the crucifixion.

Easter Sunrise service will be held at 6:30 a.m. followed by a breakfast.

There will be a 9:30 a.m. Sunday school and Easter Worship Service at 10:45 a.m.

Maundy Thursday events

Effort United Methodist Church will hold Holy Thursday's Soup & Bread in Wesley Hall at 6 p.m. and the Living Last Supper Service at 7:30 p.m.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will offer Holy Thursday morning prayer at 8 a.m., but no Mass at 8 a.m.; a 7 p.m. Mass of the Lord's Supper, and an 11 p.m. Night Prayer.

Nesquehoning

Health scan

Nesquehoning Woman's Club will sponsor the OMEGA Health Screen performed by Quest Diagnostics from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 196 West Mill St., on the basement level. There is a handicapped entrance to the rear. There is a fee.

Meed's Methodist Church

Meed's Shepherd House will take place from 1-3:30 p.m. Thursday at the church at 126 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning. Anyone in need from Nesquehoning, New Columbus or Hauto is welcome.

Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met April 10 with 57 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and Jacque Patrick provided the invocation "Little Way to Calvary."

Nora Shiedy was added to the sick list. Reports were offered by secretary Ruth Ann Feane and treasurer Penny Schlorf. Dues for 2014 are still being accepted.

The meeting concluded with cards and social games.
