Christians are at a definite disadvantage in today's world. They can be beaten and tortured by Muslims and there is no outrage. Christian churches can be blown up or even burned with the church members locked inside and there is no outrage. They can be kidnapped and held hostage in Egypt by the Muslim military rulers of that country and there is no outrage.

I watched the Republican primary race with interest over the last few weeks. I am very disappointed with the nominees, their performance and their platforms. They are bland and have little chance of engaging the hearts and minds of the electorate. After carefully reviewing their platforms, I believe that they do not have a real vision for America. Rather, they are running on a "defeat Obama" platform. The candidates seem like a bunch of kids in the schoolyard lining up to be divided into teams. They scream "pick me, pick me" but they have nothing of value to add to the team.

The President has released his 2013 budget. Despite the rhetoric, this budget increases our deficit by at least $1.3 trillion and raises the overall deficit to $17 trillion.
This budget does not save any money; it reduces the planned increase in spending by a trivial amount. It will actually increase taxes on small business owners and stifle job growth. We will still be spending more than we take in through the myriad of excessive taxes and fees.

The Administration has sunk to new lows concerning assistance to illegal aliens. An advocacy office has been set up within the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE). The purpose of this office is to assist illegal aliens who are facing deportation or who have been detained for other reasons. Over the last 20 years various courts have ruled that illegal aliens are not entitled to the protection available to legal immigrants and citizens of the United States. This new program flies in the face of those court decisions. It also conflicts with the mandate of the Border Patrol.

My grandfather told me that any politician could be bought. He would cite examples of well-known politicians who were manipulated by the rich and famous. Once he pointed these politicians out, I would follow their actions over time to see if my grandfather had it right or if he was wrong. In most cases, he was correct. In fact, as a young man I was often able to predict how a particular politician would vote on a certain issue based on who was pulling his strings. In this day and age, it is unlikely that politicians are actually being bought. Instead, they are susceptible to lobbyists.

Earlier this week, the President painted a rosy picture in his State Of The Union address. I believe that he does not recognize the reality of our current situation. Listening to his speech, I would think that America is well on the road to recovery with a vibrant economy. But when I look at the facts, our nation is still in recession. There is a ray of economic sunshine, but we have to ensure that the President and the congress do not stamp out the light before it grows into a full economic recovery.

The current Congress and the President are usurping our constitutional rights. The new National Defense Authorization Act (NDAP) originally permitted the military to arrest and indefinitely detain anyone including American citizens without a warrant or a trial.

This week, we have been bombarded with news about the Republican Primary. Rather than bore you with politics, I picked an entirely different topic.
Over the last few years, I have noticed a significant decline in the quality of the products my wife and I buy. We prefer high quality goods and are willing to pay more for better products. Unfortunately the quest for quality is often a frustrating one. If we go to Wal-Mart or Target to buy three items, within a week we are returning at least one of them. The product does not work or the parts don't fit together properly.

Several news stories caught my eye this week as I was preparing to write this article.
The first was a Shell executive stating that converting their trucks to run on natural gas would cut their fuel costs in half.

We all have our list of wishes for the New Year. A Healthy and Prosperous New Year is a short concise greeting that many of us use. In 2012, we need more than greetings if we are to make this New Year truly happy and prosperous.
My first wish is that we stop fighting wars and bring our troops home from the battlefields of the Middle East and Asia. We can no longer place our patriotic women and men in harms way, defending countries that do not like Americans or the American way of life
