It has been reported recently that residents in 44 States have filed Petitions with Barack Hussein Obama II that request permission from him for their State to peacefully secede from the Union.

Barack Obama was reelected in a landslide last Tuesday. I supported Mitt Romney and was very disappointed when he lost. Simply stated, there were not enough conservative voters for Romney to win. Young people, women, and minorities thronged to vote for President Obama. I am very concerned about the state of our union and the effect of another four years with a socialist President leading our country. Our economy was destroyed in the recession and we are just starting down the road to recovery.

In the past, I've written several articles on disaster preparedness. Some readers contacted me to answer their questions after reading the articles. I hope that they were able to complete their preparations and were ready when Hurricane Sandy hit. Over the weekend, I watched as many people scurried from store to store to purchase water, food, and other emergency supplies. Our local supermarket did their best to keep items in stock, however they could not keep up with the initial demand. The secret to disaster preparedness, as many now know, is to prepare well in advance of a disaster.

As Election Day nears, it is time to carefully review the results of Obama's first term as President of the United States. Our economy went into a tailspin at the beginning of his administration. After almost four years, the economy remains in a shambles. If Obama is re-elected, the chances of a recovery are minimal. Unemployment is at a high point with over 15 million people out of work. In an attempt to cook the books, the administration considers that the official number of unemployed people is only 12 1/2 million.

As part of my pre-election analysis of the candidates, I realized that the Obama administration has failed completely. When he took power, President Obama blamed Bush for the situation he inherited. After 3 1/2 years of failure, he continues to blame Bush. Our President refuses to accept responsibility for the economy. As a result of his lack of leadership, he has made this economic recovery the worst in modern history. As the election approaches, he is pounding his chest taking credit for the economic turnaround. This month, the economy grew at the rate of 1percent a year.

On occasion, I have difficulty coming up with a topic for my weekly article. This week, after many hours of drawing a blank, I decided to write about the constitution and the Fifth Amendment. It is the Fifth Amendment that grants the right to own private property to each and every one of us. In doing my research, I was intrigued by a story about a woman in Detroit who had a squatter take over her home while the homeowner was away for an extended period. The squatter simply moved in to the house as if it were hers.

Election coverage is saturating the airwaves. No matter what channel I watch, I am inundated with political messages. Each party is making promises that they cannot keep. Yet they continue to spew forth a stream of political nonsense that proves the old adage "baloney baffles brains". Both presidential candidates speak in glorious generalities yet offer no details on how they will implement their plans. When will the voting public awake and stand up to these tricks that get professional politicians re-elected even though they have failed us miserably?

Our economy is in a technical recovery, yet we are not experiencing the expected growth that normally comes with a recovery. Our corporations have performed well and have accumulated hordes of cash. Unfortunately, as long as President Obama is in office, many corporations will not expand in America. Instead, they will continue to keep their money overseas. Depending on the statistics used, there is between one and two trillion dollars sitting in corporate accounts in other countries. Income taxes have already been paid on these funds in the countries where the money was earned.

This presidential race does not offer much of a choice. On the one hand, we can vote for President Obama and get more the same for the next four years. This will push the country further into an economic malaise. The alternative is to vote for Mitt Romney who lacks the appeal of a charismatic leader such as President Obama. Mitt Romney is as stale as two-week-old bread. I am hoping that between now and the election, Romney will be energized and show that he can motivate our nation. To do this, he will have to produce more than a vague plan on how he will turn the country around.

I am a strong supporter of local school property taxes as they put the community in charge of our children's education.
In the Hamburg School District where I live, our taxes are higher than the surrounding communities. While some people complain about their property taxes, most of us are willing to pay more to ensure that our schools meet the needs of our children. Overall, we get good value for every dollar spent on education. Our schools are modern, our class sizes are reasonable and our teachers are paid fairly well.
