Michael Nestor Jepko

Michael Nestor Jepko, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, celebrated his 90th birthday on Oct. 30.

Born in Coaldale in 1920, Michael has also resided in Omaha, Neb. and Weatherly.

He worked on the railroad prior to going into the service. He served in the United States Army from 1939 until 1949.

He also worked for Mengle Coal & Oil for 34 years.

He was married to his wife, Mary Agnes for 41 years until her passing in 1986.

He has three children, Michael, Weatherly; Joann Keys, Maryland; and Mary Lou Cookson, Illinois.

Albert Francis Baloga is celebrating his 91st birthday on Sept. 20. Born in Wilkes-Barre in 1919, Albert is a Penn State graduate and holds a degree in industrial electronics. He is a veteran of World War ll and served with the Fourth Armored Division as an operative sergeant with the 704 Tank Destroyer BN.

Albert was married to his wife, Catherine for 30 years until her passing in 2003. They had two daughters, Mary and Catherine who died as infants.

Mary (Mazurick) Kapish

Mary (Mazurick) Kapish, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, celebrated her 97th birthday on Sunday.

Born on Aug. 29, 1913 in Mahanoy City, she also resided in West Hazleton and Hazleton Heights.

She was married to her husband, Andrew Kapish for 49 years until his passing in 1981. They had one son, Calvin "Jackie" Kapish who passed away in 2001.

Anna Kitchko

Anna Kitchko a resident at Weatherwood, formerly of Nesquehoning, celebrated her 95th birthday on July 11.

She is the widow of Samuel Kitchko who passed away in 1965. She has a daughter, Judith, of Nesquehoning, and a son, Sam, who also resides in Nesquehoning with his wife Michele. Anna has two grandchildren: Michael of Feasterville, and Samantha, wife of Nino Logan of Virginia Beach, Va. and a great grandson Xander Logan.

A family celebration was held in her honor at the pavilion at Weatherwood.

Helen (Olczewski) Anderson

Helen (Olczewski) Anderson, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, is celebrating her 91st birthday on July 30.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1919, Helen also resided in Dixhills, Long Island and Montauk, Long Island. She attended Hofstra University where she earned her bachelor's degree in business administration and teaching. She worked at the Chemical Bank & Trust Company in Manhattan as the secretary to the vice president of the bank.

She married Henry Anderson on Aug. 19, 1939 and they were married for 55 years until his passing.

Agnes Josephine Kopec

Agnes Josephine Kopec, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, celebrated her 91st birthday on July 18.

Born in Harwood in 1919, Agnes also resided in Treskow, Hazleton, and West Hazleton over the years. She worked as an examiner in the garment industry. She married Peter Kopec on Nov. 1, 1944 and they were married until he passed away in 1977.

Agnes' passions are bowling, cooking, baking, shopping, and being involved in church activities. She is a member of Transfiguration Church in West Hazleton.

Beatrice Burbes

Beatrice Burbes, a resident of the Hometown Nursing Home and formerly of Lehighton, will celebrate her 98th birthday on July 17.

She is the widow of Lewis Burbes, who passed away in 1979. She is the mother of two sons: Bruce Fritzinger, who resides in Lehighton with his wife Charlotte; and Elmer Fritzinger, who passed away nine years ago.

Beatrice enjoys cooking and shopping and is still very active.

Michael Dziak Sr.

Michael Dziak Sr., a resident of Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, is celebrating his 95th birthday.

Born in Hazleton on June 1, 1915, Michael has resided there most of his life. He is a World War II Army Veteran who served in the African and Italian Theatres. Michael worked as a contractor and was married to his beloved wife, Rose, for 58 years until her passing in 2005.

He has three children, Peggy of York, Pa., Michael of Oneida, Pa., and Thomas of Clark Summit, Pa. Michael is also the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Harry E. Smith

Harry E. Smith, a resident of Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, celebrated his 92nd birthday on June 2.

Born in Whitehall in 1918, Harry worked as a truck driver for Reeves Parvin. He also worked as a maintenance man at Western Electric until his retirement.

Harry was married to his wife, Ruth, for 58 years until her passing.

He has two children, Richard Smith of West Catasauqua, and Lucille Raczkowski of Jim Thorpe.

He also has two stepchildren, Sandy Kulpa of Jim Thorpe, and Carl Wieder, who is deceased.

Glen R. Laudenslager

Glen Robert Laudenslager, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, is celebrating his 91st birthday on May 15.

Born in Lewistown, Pa. in 1919, Glen has also resided in Cape May, N.J., Colonia, N.J., and Port Charlotte, Fla. over the years.

After graduating from high school he worked at the American Viscose Corp., making rayon thread for use in clothing, stockings, etc.

He spent three years in the Army Air Force and was stationed in Southern Italy as a radar mechanic. He also worked as a machine operator for 41 years in the Steel Mill.
