Agnes Brogan

Agnes Brogan, a resident at Heritage Hill SeniorCommunity, Weatherly, is celebrating her 99thbirthday.

Agnes was born inEckley on March 29, 1916. She is the daughter of the late John and Katherine Gaffney. Katherine was from Wilkes-Barre and John was from Ireland.

Agnes had five brothers and four sisters. She is the last of her immediate family.

Christine Yanek

Christine Yanek, a guest at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, is celebrated her 90th birthday on March 30.

She was married to Bernard J. Yanek for 54 years before his death in 2001.

Christine has threechildren, Donna Murmello, Bernadette Brasavage and John Yanek.

She has nine grand-children and seven great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed her work in the Hazleton General Hospital dietary department until her retire-ment.

Her hobbies include cooking, baking andcrocheting.

Lillian Sally Popek

Lillian Sally Popek of Jim Thorpe celebrated her 90th birthday last month.

She was born on Feb. 8, 1925.

Lillian was the guest of honor at a birthday party given by her children at Dom 'n Ali's Steak and Seafood Restaurant.

Lillian is the wife of Theodore S. Popek Sr.

Together they have five children: two daughters and three sons.

On her special day Lillian was surrounded by her family, daughters Mary Katherine McHugh and Cyrillia Gavornik, and sons Ted Jr., Tim and Terry Popek and spouses.

Carrie Deebel, a resident at Bachert's Victorian Manor in Lehighton, is celebrating her 100th birthday.

Carrie was born in Ringtown on March 22, 1915.

She was married to Allen Deebel on June 17, 1934.

She has two children: Jean Lorah of Center Valley, and Jim Deebel of Lehighton.

She also has a sister, Dorthy Zimmerman of Ohio.

Carrie has six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She enjoyed quilting and baking and still loves to read and play Parcheesi.

A party in her honor will be held at the Beaver Run Rod and Gun Club.

Hilda Guedes, formerly of Palmerton, is celebrating her 100th birthday today.

Hilda was born Ildebranda Rosa Bernardo on March 5, 1915, in Silves Algarve, Portugal. She was married to Agostinho Guedes, a former prizefighter, for 52 years. Agostinho died in 1995.

The couple came to live in the United States in 1947, but enjoyed visits to friends and family in Portugal every summer during their marriage.

Donald Bloom of Lehighton is celebrating his 85th birthday. He was born Feb. 16, 1930. He is the son of the late George and Mabel Bloom.

He is married to Perma Evert Bloom. They will celebrate their 65th anniversary this year. He has two daughters: Cindy Tobias of Jim Thorpe and Sandra Koch of Palmerton

He has six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Donald celebrated his special day with his family.

Mildred Mayher

Mildred Mayher, a resident of Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, is celebrating her 90th birthday.

She was born on Feb. 2, 1925.

Millie is a graduate of Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. She was married to her late husband, Boris Mayher, for 39 years.

She retired from the American Chain and Cable Company in Wilkes-Barre. She is an active member of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Miners Mills.

Birte "Chris" Grover

Birte "Chris" Grover, a resident of Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

Chris was born in Roskilde, Denmark, on Jan. 7, 1925.

She was a stewardess in her early 20s. She speaks five different languages, which certainly helped in her profession.

Chris met the love of her life, the late Niles Grover, who was a pilot, and they were married in 1948.

Chris was very active in the Weatherly Flower Club, of which she was president for many years. She's made many friends throughout the local area.

Agnes Limberg

Agnes Limberg, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community, Weatherly, is celebrating her 93rd birthday.

Born in Easton on Jan. 22, 1922, Agnes was married to Laird Limberg for 32 years until his death in 1972.

Agnes has eight children: Michael Limberg of Hazleton; Dorothy Moser of Wayne; Karen Wright of Neschanic Station, New Jersey; Mary Thompson of New Tripoli; Patricia Limberg of Colleyville, Texas; Diane Piparata of Easton; Laird Limberg of San Diego, California; and Jeffrey Limberg of Mesa, Arizona.

She has 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Edward Rummel of Tamaqua will observe his 88th birthday on Wednesday.

He is married to the former Dorothy Herring. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Oct. 21.

Ed is a son of the late Edward G. and Jennette Rummel and graduated from Tamaqua High School in 1944.

In 1945, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a radio operator on a tank assigned to the 67th Tank Battalion, 2nd Armored Division.

He spent more than two years in the European Theater of Operations and was awaiting transport to the Pacific theater when World War II ended.
