Walter N. Hill of Tamaqua celebrated his 100th birthday on July 21 surrounded by family and friends, including a new great-grandson. The party was held in the community room at the Tamaqua Majestic House apartments.

Albert G. Snyder

Albert G. Snyder, a resident of Heritage Hill Senior Community, Weatherly, is celebrating his 90th birthday.

Born in Freeland on July 16, 1925, he is the son of the late Albert C. and Irene (Goeppert) Snyder. He has a brother, Donald E. Snyder of Weatherly, and a sister, Carol M. Cipperley of San Jose, California.

Albert graduated from the Mining Mechanical Institute in 1943. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1943-1946. He was a proud member of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force in Europe.

Joyce Lorraine Cunfer

Joyce Lorraine Cunfer is celebrating her 90th birthday.

She was born July 7, 1925, to David and Annie Olewine in Palmerton.

She married Charles "Chick" Cunfer on April 13, 1944, in Bowmanstown.

Joyce has two sons: David Cunfer, married to Bonnie Harley, and James Cunfer, married to Tami Cunfer.

She is blessed with two grandchildren: David and Robin, and seven great-grandchildren.

Joyce also has two grand-dogs (Buster and Lily) and a grand-cat (Lucky).

Connie Biederman

Connie L. Biederman, a resident of Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, recentlycelebrated her 91st birthday.

Born in Philadelphia on July 1, 1924, she is the daughter of the late Charles and Leona Oettle.

Connie graduated from the Philadelphia High School for girls in 1942.

Following graduation she went to work at theFederal Reserve Bank in Philadelphia, where she worked for 37 years. She started as a file clerk and later became assistantcoordinator.

She married the love of her life, Fred Biederman, in 1948.

Margaret Mae Marcavage

Margaret "Maggie" Mae Marcavage recentlycelebrated her 100thbirthday.

She was born June 25, 1915, on South Line Street in Frackville. She was the eldest of four daughters, born to Madgeline Mary (Bendrick) and Paul Marcavage.

She met and eventually married Paul A. Flail of Tamaqua on Feb. 17, 1931. They met at the now defunct Lakewood Park in Barnesville. They were married for 53 years when Paul passed away in June 1984.

Dorothy Rummel of Tamaqua observed her 85th birthday on June 13. She is the wife of Edward Rummel.

Born in Barnesville, she is the daughter of the late Alvin and Mae Herring. She worked in the garment industry before retiring, for Sprite Manufacturing of Tamaqua and the J.E. Morgan Knitting Mills of Hometown.

She is the mother of four: Susan Sanders, Donald Rummel, Terry Rummel and Sandra Rummel; the grandmother of eight; and has 11 great-grandchildren.

A member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Tamaqua, she is a former Sunday school teacher and Cub Scout den mother.

LaRue and George Manhart

LaRue E. Manhart of Franklin Township recently celebrated her 90th birthday. She was born on March 31, 1925, in Big Creek, near Wild Creek Dam. She is the daughter of the late Albert and Minnie Stoudt of Big Creek. Her husband, the Rev. George Manhart, celebrated his 92nd birthday on May 12.

LaRue's friends and family surprised her with a surprise birthday party on March 30 at People's EC fellowship hall.

Genevieve Sterlock

Genevieve Sterlock, who has resided at Heritage Hill Senior Community since 2011, is celebrating her 103rd birthday.

She was born in Rome, New York, on June 6, 1912. Genevieve moved to Jeansville in 1919, then to McAdoo in 1925.

She married Joseph Sterlock in 1935 and was married for 41 years until his death in 1977.

Genevieve has one daughter, Eugenia Bumbulsky of Hometown. She also has a granddaughter, Renee Wetterau, and one great-granddaughter of Drums.

Genevieve enjoys reading, crossword puzzles, watching sports on TV and praying the daily rosary.

Helen Williams

Helen Williams of Tamaqua recently celebrated her 102nd birthday. She was born April 2, 1913.

Helen was married to Horace Williams, who passed away in 1980. They lived in Hometown until 1952, when they moved to New Jersey.

She has three children. Jean Fisher of Whiting, New Jersey; Lydia Rowan of Tamaqua, with whom she resides; and Russell Williams of Union, New Jersey.

She has five grandchildren. A grandson passed away in 2008.

Helen has 15 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Norman Krepshaw

Norman Krepshaw, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community, is celebrating his 96th birthday.

He was born on May 20, 1919, in Shamokin.

When he turned 13 he left school to work in the local coal mines. In his teenage years he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Fry.

On Jan. 2, 1940, they were married in St. Joseph's Church in Shamokin. They were married for 72 years until her passing in May 2012.
