Mr. and Mrs. James Sofranko of Jim Thorpe recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on Aug. 10, 1963 at St. Joseph's Church in Jim Thorpe by Monsignor Joseph P. Marzen.

The former Florence Butchko is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Butchko of Jim Thorpe. She is the owner of Florence Sofranko Beauty Salon in Jim Thorpe.

Her husband is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Sofranko of Jim Thorpe. He is retired from his position as manager of the Jim Thorpe Market.

Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Frey Sr.

Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Frey Sr. of Lehighton recently marked their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married Sept. 5, 1953 at St. Peter's Church, Mantzville by the Rev. Warren Ritter and the Rev. Arthur P. Snyder.

The former Helen J. Jones is the daughter of the late Chester and Edna (Sterling) Jones. She was a school bus #13 driver for the Lehighton area for 32 years.

Her husband is the son of the late Russell and Verna Snyder Frey of Tamaqua. He was employed by New England Motor Freight, the former Interstate Dress Carriers, Lehighton.

Mr. and Mrs. Gerald W. Burkett

Mr. and Mrs. Gerald W. Burkett of Lehighton recently are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married Sept. 6, 1953 in New Ringgold by the Rev. A.R. Hunsberger.

The former Isabell M. Schnell is the daughter of the late Eloise and William Schnell of Lehighton.

Her husband is the son of the late Myrtle B. and Mervin A. Burkett of Lehighton.

The couple has three children: Lana, married to Patrick Gallagher, Lehighton; Gerald T. Burkett, married to Kim, South Tamaqua; and Todd A. Burkett, married to Mary, Lehighton.

Mr. and Mrs. Burdell C. Steigerwalt

Mr. and Mrs. Burdell C. Steigerwalt, Bowmanstown, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married Aug. 28, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bowmanstown.

Burdell is the son of the late Sadie Steigerwalt Smith and Elias Steigerwalt of Lehighton. Florence is the daughter of the late Elinor and Clifford Hoffman of Lehighton.

Mr. and Mrs. Grover Moyer

Mr. and Mrs. Grover Moyer will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday. They were married Sept. 7, 1963 at Zion's Lutheran Church, Packerton, by the Rev. Kraft.

The former Nancy Zellner is the daughter of the late Walter and Beatrice Zellner of Lehighton.

Her husband is the son of the late Grover and LaRue Moyer, Palmerton.

The couple has one child, Beatrice, wife of Johnny Schafer of Lehighton. They have three grandchildren: Jan, the husband of Aprille; Jason and Johnny. They also have two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Amia Grace.

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Helmer

Mr. and Mrs. Albert Helmer of Jim Thorpe will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

They were married Aug. 22, 1953 at the Jim Thorpe UCC Church by the Rev. Preuss.

The former Joyce Heckman is the daughter of the late Asher and Mary Heckman of Unionville.

Albert Helmer Sr. is the son of the late Frank and Sadie Helmer of Unionville. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1985 after nearly 35 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles N. Strohl

Mr. and Mrs. Charles N. Strohl of Walnutport are celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. They were married on July 31, 1948 at the First United Church of Christ in Palmerton.

Shirley is the daughter of the late Allen R. and Carrie Mae (Kipp) Kresge and stepdaughter of the late Hattie Crissman.

Charles is the son of the late Floyd and Ethel Strohl.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snyder of 313 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, will celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary on July 29. They were married in Zion's Lutheran Church, Tamaqua, by the late Rev. Charles Schlitzer.

Mrs. Snyder is the former Joan Schlosser. Retired, she was employed as Tamaqua borough secretary for 25 years. Her husband is a disabled veteran with more than 16 years of military service. He was last employed as plant superintendent at the former Diversified Metals in Hometown.

The couple has two daughters, Suzanne Blanchard of Gatesville, Texas, and Kim Kropp of Tamaqua.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Maxine Mertz, Jim Thorpe, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 20.

They were married in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Packerton by the Rev. William Kroft.

They were honored at an anniversary dinner hosted by their children, Charlotte Nemeth, Christine Sutters and Donald Mertz II; grandchildren, Shanea Mertz, Jared McGuire and Amanda Sutters; and great-grandchild, Kasey Kovacs.

Mrs. Mertz is retired from health care and Mr. Mertz is retired from Bethlehem Steel.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Esrang Jr.

Georgine and Kenneth Esrang Jr. of Lehighton recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on June 29, 1963 at People's E.C. Church in East Weissport by the Rev. Horn and the Rev. Steinhart.

Mrs. Esrang is the former Georgine Smith, daughter of the late George and Anna Mae Smith.

Mr. Esrang is the son of the late Martha and Kenneth Esrang Sr.

They were honored at a surprise celebration dinner hosted by their daughters, Robin Grohotolski of Palmerton and Amy Coleman and her husband LeRoy of Lehighton, at the Blue Ridge Country Club in Palmerton.
