Jim Kressler

Jim Kressler recently celebrated his 95th birthday. He was born March 17, 1918. As a boy, he grew up on a farm and worked in Bucks County.

In the 1930s he moved to the outskirts of Jim Thorpe, on top of Kattner's mountain. He married his brother's sister-in-law. It was amazing how two brothers fell in love and married two sisters.

Jim and Lucy Kressler lived at Behren's Dairy, where he worked. Jim was instrumental in helping transform the swamp into a spring fed lake known as Bear Creek Lakes.

Carrie Deebel

Carrie (Bley) Deebel, who was born March 22, 1915 in Ringtown, Pa., is celebrating her 98th birthday.

The daughter of the late Armin and Rebecca (Dietz) Bley, she attended the East Union Township Schools.

Carrie was married to Allen W. Deebel for 43 years, prior to his death in April of 1978.

She has two children, Jean (Deebel) Lorah, of Center Valley, Pa., and James Deebel of Lehighton. She also has 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She has always enjoyed cooking, baking bread, quilting and loves to read.

Mildred "Millie" Harahus

Mildred "Millie" Harahus of Tamaqua celebrated her 90th birthday on March 10. The former Mildred Marcin, she is the widow of George Harahus of Lansford.

During World War II, she was a nurses' aide at the former Coaldale State General Hospital. Her work career also included a 10-year stint at the former Atlas Powder Company, Reynolds, and demonstrating Coca Cola Products at various grocery stores.

She was last employed by Jamesway in Tamaqua.

A daughter, Riley Anna Marie Falise, was born to Brynn and James Falise, at 9:19 p.m., on Feb. 18, in Westminster, Md. She weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces and measured 22 inches long.

Maternal grandparents are Danny and Donna Miscavige of Weatherly. Paternal grandparents are James and Jeanine Falise of Westminster, Md.

Sarah Geiger and Matthew Fees

The engagement of Sarah Elizabeth Geiger, daughter of James and Mary Geiger of Schuylkill Haven, to Matthew Allen Fees, son of Susan Garrett of Tuscarora, has been announced by her parents.

The bride-to-be is a 2006 graduate of Blue Mountain High School and a 2011 graduate of East Stroudsburg University. She is employed as a remedial math teacher at Catapult Learning, Harrisburg.

The prospective bridegroom is a 2007 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School and a 2011 graduate of Waynesburg University. He is employed at various area schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Jarrod Rother

Kaytlin Marie Cunningham, daughter of Donna and Jeffery Cunningham of Carlisle, became the bride of Jarrod Michael Rother, son of Dorothy and Joseph Rother of Tamaqua, on Sept. 1, 2012, at Liberty Mountain Resort, Fairfield, Pa. The double ring ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Susan Dougherty. David Zipse performed on the piano for the ceremony.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose Christine Vanartsdalen of Dallas, Pa., as the maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Melissa Gunshannon of Kingston, and Maria Pizzo of Dallas.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Hiroshi and Yoko Wakamatsu of Naka City, Japan. She is a graduate of Mito Secondary High School and a graduate of Tokai University in Tokyo, Japan.

She is employed by YAMAHA Corporation in the English Education Department.

The bridegroom is the son of Patrick and Susan Conner of West Penn Township, Tamaqua. He is a 2002 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, and a 2006 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania.

The engagement of Katherine Hudson of Simsbury, Conn., to Michael Crowley, also of Simsbury, has been announced by her parents.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Jane Hudson and Dr. Ronald Balthazar of Watinsville, Ga. and Dr. Richard Hudson and Brenda Rodgers of Colbert, Ga. She is a graduate of Oconee Country High School in Georgia, and Cornell University in New York.

She is employed as a variable annuity product analyst at Lincoln Financial in Hartford, Conn.
