Lauren Romano and Kenneth R. Houser

The engagement of Lauren E. Romano, Lebanon, to Kenneth R. Houser, also of Lebanon, has been announced by her parents.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Christopher and Donna Romano of Pottsville.

She is the granddaughter of Ruth Smulligan and the late James R. Smulligan Sr. of Tamaqua; and Angelo and Diane Romano of Mount Holly Springs, Pa., former residents of Hometown.

Joseph R. Pacitti and Carla M. Baran

The engagement of Carla M. Baran of Frederick, Md., to Joseph R. Pacitti, also of Frederick, has been announced by her parents.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Gregg and Cleo Baran of Tamaqua.

She is a 2004 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School, and a 2008 graduate of Elizabethtown College, where she received a bachelor of arts degree in English education. She is currently pursuing a masters in American studies at Pennsylvania State University.

She is employed as an English teacher at Washington County Technical High School in Hagerstown, Md.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hope Sr.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hope Sr. recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on Oct. 1, 1960 in Zion Lutheran Church in Tamaqua.

Mrs. Hope is the former Mae Frye, daughter of the late Emma and John Frye of Quakake. She is a homemaker.

Mr. Hope is the son of Lorene Hope and the late Robert C. Hope of Tamaqua. He is employed by Hope's Collision and Towing of Tamaqua.

Spencer Maynard Schirer

SCHIRER A son, Spencer Maynard Schirer, was born at 1:59 p.m. on Sept. 3, 2010 at St. Luke's, Allentown, to Ashley Yurick and Shane Schirer of Summit Hill.

He weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces and measured 22 inches long.

The new baby was welcomed home by an older sister, Madeline Ann Schirer, who is 14 months old.

Maternal grandparents are Theresa Yurick and the late Paul Yurick Jr. of Summit Hill.

Paternal grandparents are Richard and Donna Schirer of Lehighton.

Alumni from St. Ann's School, Lansford, held their final reunion on Aug. 28 at LaCasa Dolce, Tamaqua. Approximately 100 people attended the reunion traveling from as far as Colorado.

St. Ann's School opened in the church basement on Aug. 24, 1917 with the Rev. Hugh J. Bowen serving as the first pastor.

In 1921, the Rev. James B. McGarry became the new pastor at St. Ann's. He began making plans for a new school. St. Ann's parish purchased the property of Edward Thomas at 40 E. Bertsch St. and on May 10, 1924, a contract was signed to begin the construction of a new school.

Mr. and Mrs. Adam Holota

Mr. and Mrs. Adam "Mickey" Holota of Coaldale will celebrate their 55th anniversary next week.

The Holotas were married on Oct. 8, 1955 in St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church, Lansford, by the late Rev. John Kovacik.

Mrs. Holota is the former Lillian Svrchek. Mr. Holota is a former Tuscarora resident. He is a 24-year retiree of the United States Air Force.

The couple has four sons: Michael and Marty of Seattle, Wash.; Mark of Tucson, Ariz.; and Richard of Coaldale.

The Holotas plan to celebrate their anniversary with a trip to Tucson in the near future.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl A. Davidson

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Allen Davidson, Kunkletown, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on Oct. 1, 1960 at Salem U.C.C. in Gilbert by the Rev. Mark B. Michael.

Mrs. Davidson is the former Dorothy Mae Burger, daughter of Jennie Edith (Diehl) Burger and Norman Burger. Her husband is the son of the late Winnie Mae (Youngkin) Davidson and Allen Osborn Davidson, formerly of Kunkletown.

They have two daughters: Carla Ann (Davidson) Parker and her husband, Allen, of Kunkletown; and Susan Jayne (Davidson) Hennet, and her husband Charles, also of Kunkletown.
