Lance Cpl. Christopher R. Perrinsand Ashley Nicole Starry

The engagement of Ashley Nicole Starry of Lakeland, Fla., formerly of Summit Hill, to Lance Cpl. Christopher R. Perrins, Camp Pendleton, Calif., and formerly of Shavertown, Pa., has been announced by her mother.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Mary Ann Karnish Starry of Lakeland, formerly of Summit Hill.

She is a 2008 graduate of King's College, Wilkes-Barre, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in biology; and a 2010 graduate of Tampa General Hospital School of Medical Technology in Tampa, Fla.

She is employed by Tampa General Hospital.

Alphonso Best and Ellen Major

Ellen Major of Lansford, and Alfonso Best of New York, N.Y., have announced their engagement.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of the late Margaret Hudasky and the late George Major.

She attended Panther Valley High School and is currently employed by the Advocacy Alliance in Dunmore.

The prospective bridegroom is the son of Shirley Best of New York, and the late Alphonso Best.

He holds an associate degree in medical technology. He is employed by Hale and Hearty in New York.

A wedding is being planned for September of 2010.

Lucie Carpenito shares a warm smile as she celebrates her 100th birthday.

Lucie Carpenito recently celebrated her 100th birthday. She was born on Jan. 25, 1910 in West Orange, N.J., the daughter of the late Dominic and Candida Capozzi. Her mother lived to the age of 103.

She spent part of her childhood in Italy, before returning to live in East Orange, N.J. As a teenager she studied music, eventually attending Julliard School of Music.

In 1929 she married Anthony Carpenito.

Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy Atkinson

Joanne Sandt and Jeremy Atkinson, both of Spring, Texas, were united in marriage on Oct. 31, 2009 at Shady Oaks in Spring, Texas. The Rev. C. Daniel Swyden officiated at the double ring ceremony.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride is the daughter of James and Susan Sandt of Lehighton.

She chose Julie Schmidt of Spring, as the maid of honor.

Bridesmaids included Kimberly Bateman, Amanda Ratigan, Heather Flower and her sister-in-law Stefanie Lambert, who are all of the Spring-Houston area.

Due to the recent snowstorm, auditions for the play "Tilly,"were postponed.

Auditions will now be held 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Blue Mountain Community Church, 25 Oak St., Palmerton. Needed are actors ages 9 and older.

Joseph Dutzer

Joseph Dutzer, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, recently celebrated his 91st birthday.

Born in Beaver Meadows on Feb. 4, 1919, Joe has resided there his entire life.

He drove buses for Luzerne and Carbon county bus companies and also worked for Frame Oil Company. He served in the Army in World War ll and is a member of the VFW

Even though Joe never had any children of his own, he has always been a devoted uncle.

His hobbies over the years have been fishing, walking his dog, carpentry work, and going to the casino.
