Agnes Josephine Kopec

Agnes Josephine Kopec, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community, recently celebrated her 92nd birthday.

She was born on July 18, 1919 in Harwood, Pa. Agnes also resided in Treskow, Hazleton, West Hazleton and Weatherly. She was married to Peter Kopec in 1944 and they were married for 33 years until his passing in 1977.

Agnes worked as an examiner in Perfect Maid and Tony & Carmella's dress factories. She is a member of the ILGWU and Transfiguration church in West Hazleton.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snyder of 313 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, will celebrate their 61st wedding anniversary on July 29. They were married in Zion Lutheran Church, Tamaqua, by the late Rev. Charles Schlitzer.

Mrs. Snyder is the former Joan Schlosser. She is retired after working 25 years as the Tamaqua borough secretary.

Her husband is a disabled veteran with over 16 years of service in the U.S. Army. Retired, he was last employed as plant superintendent at the former Diversified Metals Corp., Hometown.

Mr. and Mrs. Brian Smith Sr.

Mr. and Mrs. Brian Smith Sr. of Franklin Township recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

They were married on June 21, 1986 at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church by the Rev. David Williams.

Mrs. Smith is the former Cheryl Wentz, daughter of the late Paul and Edna Wentz. Mr. Smith is the son of the late Roy and Jane Smith.

Mr. Smith is employed by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. His wife is employed by PNC Bank.

The Smiths are the parents of one son, Brian Smith Jr., who graduated from Penn State University in 2010 with a degree in finance.

The 63rd annual Eck reunion will take place at the Emmaus Community Park, 1401 Shimerville Road, Emmaus in the rotary pavilion on Aug. 7.

Lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m.

Please bring a covered dish or dessert for the community table, a cake for the cake walk and a prize for the raffle table.

A business meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. There will be games for the children.

The descendants of Weaver John Fretz and his brother, Christian, will gather at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 at St. Matthew's Kellers Church, 3668 Ridge Road, Perkasie, Pa., to celebrate the 123rd anniversary of the first Fretz family reunion. The family arrived in Bucks County from Germany in the 1720s and has spread to many states in the U.S. and Ontario.

The engagement of Barbara M. Keilman-Sherman of Andreas, to David S. Zellner, has been announced by the couple.

The bride-to-be is the daughter of Gary and Helen Keilman of Tamaqua. She is a graduate of Tamaqua Area High School and Bloomsburg University. She is employed in Allentown.

The prospective bridegroom is the son of Jewel and the late William D. Zellner of Andreas. He is a graduate of Tamaqua Area High School and Thaddeus Stevens State School of Technology. He is employed in Pottsville.

The wedding is set for Nov. 12, 2011.

The 79th Annual Reunion of the Strohl Family will be held Sunday, Aug. 7 at the Palmerton Memorial Park beginning at 1 p.m. Family members are asked to bring a covered dish. Sodas and hot dogs will be available for purchase.

A brief business meeting will be held immediately after lunch. Bring cakes for the cakewalk and a small prize for bingo.

Please bring old family pictures and other Strohl mementos for discussion.
