Madelyn Elizabeth Minnich

A daughter, Madelyn Elizabeth Minnich, was born at 4:19 p.m. on June 25, 2010 at Lehigh Valley Hospital to April Rehrig and Matthew Minnich of Lehighton. She weighed 6 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 20 inches long.

Maternal grandparents are Cheryl Miller and Todd Rehrig, both of Lehighton.

Paternal grandparents are Michael and Maryann Minnich, also of Lehighton.

Christine Knoblauch and Christopher Hall

Mr. and Mrs. James Knoblauch of Winter Park, Fla., and formerly of Tamaqua and Alburtis, Pa., have announced the engagement of their daughter, Christine of Glendale, Calif., to Christopher Hall, also of Glendale.

The bride-to-be is a 1999 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a 2003 graduate of Boston University, where she received a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology.

Mr. and Mrs. Donald Boran III

Plains United Methodist Church, Plains, was the setting for the May 15 wedding of Rebecca Marie Milligan of Plains and Donald Boran III of Tamaqua. The double ring ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Paul Amarra. Jack Psolka was the organist.

The bride is the daughter of Theresa Milligan of Plains and the late Richard Milligan, who passed away May 12, 2010.

Coupons can be a great way to save money or a waste of time depending on your shopping habits. Do you use coupons effectively?

At the Frugal Foodie house, we have a Sunday tradition. I like to sit at the kitchen table with sale fliers and the Sunday coupons. After going through the fliers and circling items that look promising, I turn to the coupons. I cut out any coupons that match the week's sales, or that offer a discount on items that we use frequently in our house.

The Horizon of Hope luncheon, held at Mahoning Valley Country Club on Sunday, brought mothers, daughters, and friends together to help raise money for a local woman who is battling breast cancer.

This year's luncheon, which was organized by the Forever Friends branch of Longaberger Home Consultants, had dozens of women and children, and even a few men, filling the banquet hall to support Patricia K. Kurtz of Jim Thorpe, who has been fighting breast cancer since 2001.

The luncheon also serves to raise awareness of the most common form of cancer in women.
