11 area players named to PFN All-State team

Eleven players from the Times News coverage area were selected to the 2023 Pennsylvania Football News (PFN) Coaches Select All-State team that was released on Thursday.

Headlining the teams were three players each from Northwestern, Palmerton and Northern Lehigh. In addition, Jim Thorpe and Marian both placed one player on the team.

The Class 3A team saw the Tigers’ Dalton Clymer (running back) and Ben Walters (linebacker) receive first team, and teammate Eli Zimmerman (safety) named to the second team. The Bombers placed three players on the first team as Matt Machalik was selected the team’s offensive athlete, while Logan Anthony and Zack Anthony were selected the starting guards. Rounding out the area selections in 3A was Jim Thorpe’s Noah Rosahac as a first-team defensive tackle.

In addition to the area players selected, Northwestern’s Josh Snyder was honored as the Coach of the Year in Class 3A.

In Class 1A, Northern Lehigh’s Jackson Van Norman (center) and Sam Frame (nose guard) were first team selections, while teammate Chris Frame (cornerback) was a second team pick. Marian’s James Rodino made the second team as a defensive tackle.
