The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Todd Kowar, age 24, Kidder Township, Carbon County, was indicted today by a federal grand jury in Scranton on charges of producing child pornography and possessing child pornography. State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roads. A one-vehicle crash occurred at 1 p.m. on Thursday along Route 209 in Porter Township. Troopers said Benjamin D. Hillard, 44, of Valley View, was driving a 2002 Toyota Echo northbound when the car left the road and entered a grassy area, then went down an embankment striking a tree. Franklin Township captured a championship to highlight recent Little League play. LITTLE LEAGUE PVLL 9-10 tourney Franklin-Jim Thorpe Franklin Township defeated Jim Thorpe, 11-2, for the Panther Valley Little League Tournament 9-10 year-old Championship. Both teams entered the game with 4-0 records. Franklin's Josh Steigerwalt pitched a complete game while giving up only six hits. Franklin Township was led by two hits each from Nate Armbruster, Dylan Bowman and Hunter Crum.
Rita Aniszewski
Rita (Neglia) Aniszewski, a resident at Heritage Hill Senior Community, Weatherly, is celebrating her 91st birthday. Born in Harlem, New York, on Aug. 1, 1923, she is the youngest sister of eight siblings. Rita was married to Anthony Aniszewski for 45 years until his death in 1993. They both enjoyed world and U.S. travel. Rita has two daughters: Rose Cava of Jim Thorpe, and Rita, who passed away in August 1999. She has two granddaughters, one lives in Jim Thorpe, and the other in South Carolina...
"Life Itself" is a harrowing, if heartfelt, documentary about movie critic Roger Ebert, best-known sitting opposite Gene Siskel on TV's "thumbs-up, thumbs-down" movie review and movie clips shows. The documentary, made with the cooperation of Roger Ebert's then-wife and now widow, Chaz Ebert, doesn't pull too many punches in its sometimes brutal assessment of Roger Ebert, who died in 2013.
