A Stroudsburg woman was killed Friday in a two-car crash on Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township. Mae Ellen Hagerty, 66, attempted to turn left from Route 115 onto Gilbert Road at about 3:15 p.m. A car driven by Marybeth A. State police at the Fern Ridge barracks are investigating a burglary that was reported on Aug. 22 at a residence in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. The victim is a 44-year-old woman who lives on Shenkel Road in Effort. Police said someone arrived at her back yard on an ATV and stood on the basement door of her residence while forcing open a window screen with a prying tool. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Curvey of Tamaqua celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Sept. 2. They were married in Trinity Reformed Church, Tamaqua, by the late Rev. John Kleinginna. Mrs. Curvey is the former Evelyn Betz, daughter of the late John C. and Bertha Betz. Mr. Curvey is the son of the late Jacob and Mabel Curvey. The couple has four children: Larry of Hometown, James of Brockton, Jon of West Penn Township and Diane of Tamaqua.
"Irrational Man" is an odd movie title that doesn't make much sense until you've seen the film. While the title is not one of the more memorable film titles, it makes sense symbolically. That's because "Irrational Man" writer-director Woody Allen isn't only talking about the protagonist, Abe Lucas (Joaquin Phoenix), a college philosophy professor, but rather the family of man with Abe as the stand-in.
