Summit Hill creating landlord database

Summit Hill's zoning enforcement officer, Bill Kirklosky, said he is in the process of creating a landlord database.

He said of the entries made so far, the landlords have been cooperative in providing him information.He told Summit Hill Borough Council on Monday he is prepared to file citations with a district magistrate for any landlord who doesn't comply.Kirklosky also told the council one thing which helps him in general enforcement of such things as building or construction permits is when concerned residents tip him off.He said he has received several phone calls from people wanting to know if certain people have obtained permits for work they are doing."I think it's good the citizens are concerned," Kirklosky said.He said anyone who wants to get in touch with him should call the borough hall at 570-645-2305 and leave a message.Other mattersIn other business during Summit Hill Borough Council's meeting:• Ryan Richards of the Carbon County Office of Planning and Development said Summit Hill was approved for a Community Development Block Grant totaling $108,731.Jodi McAndrew, chairman of the Summit Hill Recreation Commission, said the money will be used for improvements at Ginder Field, including extending the pavilion, adding a kitchenette and redoing the backrooms in the garage.• McAndrew said the borough's Children's Halloween Party will be held on Oct. 28.Christmas on the Hill will be held on Dec. 3.• The Recreation Commission's Back to School Movie Night was a tremendous success, McAndrew said.She said more than 75 people attended. Fifty back-to-school prizes were awarded.• Fall cleanup in the borough will be held onOct. 7 on the east side of town and along with Knepper's Trailer Court and East and West White Bear drives. It will be held onOct. 14 on the west side of town, as well as along Laurel and East and West Mountaintop drives.Items to be picked up include up to four tires, tire rims, auto body parts, refrigerators, freezers, vending machines, dehumidifiers, water coolers, heat pumps, washers, dryers and stoves. All items must have chemicals removed and doors taken off.• The council approved a Workers' Compensation Insurance proposal from the Wesco Insurance Company through Am Trust North America at a rate of $43,415. This is a savings of $8,840 from last year when the borough was with the state insurance fund.• Also approved was property insurance renewal policy with the Kilmer Group at a rate of $45,016, which is an increase of $639 from last year. The council said a reason for the increase is a new truck was added and a monument installed by the fire department was put on the policy.• The council gave permission to Sherry Shellhammer to use the Ginder Field in October for a memorial service and to release sky lanterns in honor of Vahnne Gower, a 9-year-old girl who died in a fire. Shellhammer hasn't set a specific date for the event, the council said.• Trick-or-treat night will be observed in Summit Hill from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31, with the rain date Nov. 1.• In his monthly report, Chief of Police Joseph Fittos Jr. said there were 43 traffic citations and four nontraffic issued by the department in August. Fittos said six warnings were given. Three traffic crashes were investigated.
