Today might be the first day of fall, but summer temperatures are hanging on.

Saturday, the high will be near 84 and temperatures Sunday will near 90 degrees. The late-season resurgence of heat has prompted Palmerton Memorial Pool to reopen this weekend, according to Larry Arner, general manager.Arner said the big pool will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. The baby pool will not be open, as it has been closed and winterized, he said. The cost of admission will be $2 both days. Select items, such as pizza, soft pretzels, ice cream and beverages will be available for purchase.Arner said the water temperature was 78 degrees the past two days. Lifeguards will be on duty, he said."We had chlorine left over, and with the very hot weather, we decided to do it as good public relations for our community and surrounding area," Arner said. "The water is nice and clean yet."The pool originally opened over Memorial Day weekend.Arner said it originally closed Sept. 7, before the decision was made to reopen this weekend only.
