Chestnuthill supervisors award anti-skid contract

The Chestnuthill supervisors held a short monthly meeting on Tuesday evening during which they awarded the contract for anti-skid material to Locust Ridge for a total of $123,250 for the upcoming winter season. Chestnuthill has more than 150 miles of township roads which is the reason for purchasing 8,500 tons of the material.

The only other bid came from Hanson Aggregates for $165,750.The supervisors also agreed to advertise for contracted snowplowing for the winter. The contracted services are called in when extreme snow conditions make it impossible for the township road department to keep up and maintain safe driving conditions for drivers on township roads.The township will also be advertising for bids for operating the recycling center at the transfer station. The Burnley Workshop currently operates the center on a contract that is set to expire at the end of the year.The township also signed a memorandum of understanding with American Legion Post 927 to assist in applying for a Local Share Account grant for improvements to the Legion building.In other business, the township agreed to a donation of $300 to support the Brodhead Watershed.Bernie Kozen reminded residents of upcoming park events.
