Northwestern enjoys success

Northwestern's girls and boys both turned in strong showings in a multi-team cross country meet on Wednesday. Tiger teams also posted victories in girls soccer, golf and volleyball.

VOLLEYBALLPalmerton-NorthwesternNorthwestern spoiled Palmerton's first-ever varsity volleyball match by rolling to a 25-14, 25-16, 25-17 Colonial League sweep.The Tigers had 24 aces in the match, including 10 in the match-clinching third set.Outside hitter Jovina Fager led Northwestern with four kills. The Tigers went a combined 9-1 on the day with the girls team finishing unbeaten at 5-0 and the boys team going 4-1.Northern Lehigh was 2-3 in girls action and 1-4 in boys while Palmerton failed to record a win. The Bomber boys went 0-5 while the girls team does not have enough players to record a full team score.Despite Palmerton's lack of team success, Jake Martinez had an outstanding individual performance. Martinez had the best area finish in the boys meet, placing third with a time of 15:40. Northwestern's Robert Leiser and Phil Castrine finished fourth and fifth respectively while Northern Lehigh's Preston Kemery rounded out the area runners in the top-10 with a seventh place showing.In the girls meet, Northwestern turned in a dominating display by placing six runners among the top nine finishers. Maddie Consuelos led the way with a second place showing, turning in a time of 18:16. Alyssa Zach and Kaitlyn Jones also placed in the top five.
