Frackville death ruled 'homicide

FRACKVILLE - The death of a Frackville man found inside a house Wednesday afternoon has been ruled a homicide. Frackville Police Chief Richard Bell said a forensic autopsy conducted Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, determined the cause of death as a gunshot wound and the manner of death as homicide. The man, Bell said, was found inside the 443 N. 3rd St. home just before 5 p.m. and is believed to be in his early 40s or 50s. He said that although authorities believe they know the name of the man, they are holding off releasing that information until a positive identification is made. The chief said forensic experts will use dental records and fingerprint comparisons to make that positive identification. Frackville Police were assisted with their investigation by members of the Pennsylvania State Police Forensic Services Unit based in Reading. Forensic investigators spent Wednesday night and most of the day Th ursday at the home gathering evidence and taking photographs. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:35 p.m. Wednesday by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner Albert T. Barnes. Barnes also would not release the name of the victim citing the pending investigation. Investigators have not said when the man died or how long he had been inside the home deceased before being discovered. On Saturday Bell said the investigation into finding out who killed the man is ongoing and active. "We have a very active and in depth criminal investigation into this case," Bell said adding that authorities feel there is no threat to the public. "We don't believe this was a random act," the chief said.
