The Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 held a coloring contest for kindergarten and first grade students. The theme was "I Pledge Allegiance."

The winning student had their design placed on the cover of the brochure for the VFW's Loyalty Day program.Cmdr. Richard Ellis visited the school on May 9 to hand out prizes to students. The class winners each received a $25 Walmart gift card and the school winner received a $50 gift card. The overall winner was Trinity Breiner.The class winners were as follows: Roger Damron, Tinley Day, Jesse Ellis, Natessa Green, Hayden Leinhard, Chase McArdle, Bekim Mehmeti, Joy Pelcheck, Shaniya Sanders, and Nicholas Singh.
