Lehighton considers food truck regulations

Food trucks will eventually be allowed to set up shop at certain areas in Lehighton.

Borough council on a unanimous measure Monday agreed to advertise an ordinance regulating food trucks.Last month, council agreed to create an ordinance for mobile food vehicle licensing, which would create regulations for mobile food trucks.Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said the borough received a few requests for food trucks along the trail and within town.In a related matter, council agreed to table a request by Dilly Dogs Catering to place a food cart at the D7L Trail during lunchtime hours.Beckett said the matter has been tabled until the food truck ordinance is in place.In other action, council approved:• A Chevrolet pickup truck donation from Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1 to the Lehighton Fire Department. Beckett said Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1's social quarters has agreed to donate the funds from their truck fund for the purchase of a new Chevrolet pickup truck for the Lehighton Fire Department.• A reduction in the letter of credit for the Jim Thorpe River Sports/Lehighton Outdoor Center Land Development in the amount of $53,730.• An ordinance amending and replacing the borough's existing ordinance regarding smoking and tobacco use. Beckett said grant funding had been received through the City of Bethlehem to update the borough's ordinance. The project was funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Health.• Parryville Borough to join and participate in the Joint Municipal UCC Appeals Board.• The hiring of Cassandra Schafer for summer employment at the Baer Memorial Pool Food Stand.• The request by Crusade for the Homeless 5K Walk/Run July 8, with fire police assistance for traffic control if available.• The Lehighton Athletic Booster Club's request to hold Community Day at Baer Memorial Park July 15. The rain date is July 16.• The Lehighton Takedown Club's request to hold its annual car show around the lower park Aug. 20. The rain date is Aug. 27.
