Tamaqua and area school board races

Tamaqua Area School District had four, four-year terms, seats for the school board up for election Tuesday. Here are the results of all area school board races.

Tamaqua AreaThere were four Republicans candidates on the ballot for the four seats. The vote totals were Thomas A. Rottet, 1,185; Bryan Miller, 1,167; Mark Rother, 1,114; and Nicholas E. Boyle, 1,088. On the Democratic side, three of the four cross-filed. The vote totals were Rottet, 347; Miller, 330; and Boyle, 327. There were 157 write-ins on the Democratic side to decide the fourth position.Mahanoy AreaThere was a race for four seats, four-year term, on the Mahanoy Area school board with five candidates cross-filing. The order of finish on the Democratic side was Karen E. Yedsena, 447; John Honus, 421; Steven Gnall, 420; Jay Hanley, 352; and Jim Mitchell, 339. On the GOP side, the top finishers were Yedsena, 365; Gnall, 364; Honus, 343; Mitchell, 299; and Hanley, 285. There will be a race in the fall since Mitchell and Hanley did not get both nominations.Blue MountainThere was a race for four seats on the Blue Mountain school board with five candidates cross-filing. However, four of the five got both nominations and won the positions. On the Democratic side the order of finish was Dean Gherghel 469, Anne Usuka 441, John A. Carestia 420, Herman Robert Fligge 395 and David W. Williams 376. On the GOP side the order of finish was Gherghel 1,175, Fligge 925, Usuka 916, Carestia 908 and Williams 889. Williams is the odd man out.
