Pleasant Valley school board

The Pleasant Valley School Board approved several personnel changes during its recent meeting. They include:

• Hiring college students as professional staff day-to-day substitutes: Jessica Morrone, East Stroudsburg University student, $110 per diem.

• Hiring of support staff substitutes: Leslie LaRose, food service employee at $10.14 per hour; paraprofessional associate at $82.50 per diem.

• Addition to current assignment: Angela Hill, substitute monitor, $9.15 per hour.

• Intramural advisers: Toni Bush, girls lacrosse; and Brandon Libro and Jeremy Goff, weight room.

• Sabbatical leave: Dawn Wisser, Pleasant Valley Elementary School teacher, second semester of the 2019-2020 school year.

• Change to current assignment: Amanda Menghini, added math coach to her position of PVIS fifth-grade teacher.

• Supplemental contracts: Nonathletic, Jake Percey, chess club adviser, $2,000.

The board also approved the following field trips. Cost per student is not paid by the school district.

• Grades 3-4 (after-school): PVE and PVI ski club, Blue Mountain Ski Area, Palmerton, five trips in January and February. $250 per student.

• Grades 5-6: PVI Ski Club, Blue Mountain Ski Area, five trips in January and February. $200 per student.

• Grades 7-8: MS Ski Club, Blue Mountain Ski Area, for six trips in January and February. Cost is $159 to $299 per student.

• Grades 10-11: Anti-Defamation League 13th Annual Leadership Conference, Pennsylvania Convention Center, Philadelphia; Nov. 12. No cost per student.

• Grades 11-12: Physics class, Dorney Park, Allentown, to apply real concepts learned to real-world data collected, Oct. 1 and May 8. $40 per student.

• Grades 9-12: Science Olympiad, Robotics Competition, George School, Newtown, April 18. No cost per student.

• Grades 9-12: Future Business Leaders of America, State Leadership Conference, Hershey, April 5-8. $50 per student. And National Leadership Conference, Salt Lake City, Utah, June 26 to July 3. $300 per student.

• Grades 9-12: GAPP, Kaiserslautern, Germany, for two-week exchange program for 12 PV students, June 20 to July 6. About $2,000 per student.

• Grades 9-12: Diversity Club and Key Club, Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, May 1. $10 per student.

• Grades 9-12: HS Ski Club, Elk Mountain Ski Area, Union Dale, Feb. 7. About $80 per student. And Blue Mountain Ski Area, for eight trips in January and February. Cost is $175 to $595 per student.

The board also granted approval of use of its facilities by the American Cancer Society. ACS asked to us the middle school cafeteria for its monthly meetings from 5 to 8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of the month. ACS also received approval to hold its annual Relay for Life at the high school stadium from 10 a.m. May 30 to 10 a.m. May 31. The organization will be using the stadium and its facilities for setup from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 28 and 29.
