Route 309 construction through October

Road construction signs are popping up all over, so it must be spring.

This week, motorists were treated to a sign announcing that Route 309 north of Tamaqua will be under construction beginning April 1.Ron Young, PennDOT information officer for District 5, explained the project as being a reconstruction of 309 between Rose Street in Tamaqua, extending to one quarter mile north of Lincoln Drive in Hometown.Lehigh Asphalt and Paving of Tamaqua was awarded the $3.4 million project, which will include base repairs, milling, patching, updating the guide rails and replacing concrete islands, signs and pavement markings.Young notes the contractor has the option to work days and/or nights and motorists should expect lane closures and probable delays.The project is slated for completion by October.

Route 309 in Tamaqua and Hometown will be under construction starting April 1. Motorists should be prepared for lane closures and delays, days and nights, until October. KATHY KUNKEL/TIMES NEWS
