Pleasant Valley graduate Khai Samuels captured first place in the 800 meters at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Samuels, a sophomore at East Stroudsburg University, beat out his closest competitor by over 1.5 seconds to cruise to the victory.

A former Times News Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2015, Samuels turned in a career-best mark of 1:53.73 to easily win the race. The second-place finisher was clocked in 1:55.37.

Samuels entered the competition, held at Edinboro University, with a top mark of 1:55.32 before shattering that time. His mark in now the second best in school history in indoors, trailing just the 1:53.19 set by Mike Saparito in 2011.

The Effort native was also a part of the ESU 4x800 relay team that finished in third place. The foursome turned in a time of 7:54.25.

As a freshman, Samuels ran a 1:53.53 during the outdoor season at the PSAC Championships.
